緋色茸 （ヒイロタケ）

タマチョレイタケ科、シュタケ属のキノコ類


鮮やかな緋色をしており、古木、老木、倒木、
切株などに生える。一般的なサルノコシカケ
と同様、半円型の形状を成す。


このキノコは表層だけではなくて内部もこの
鮮やかな緋色である。表面の鮮やかな緋色に
ついては風雨や陽光に晒されて褪色をするが
内部の色素は何年経っても色褪せぬままゆえ
キノコ染料として利用される。


ヒイロタケの肉質は、コルク質、革質で食感
も非常に悪く、固い上に無味無臭であり食用
に適さない。その上、動物や虫も食さない事
から長年、朽木などに残ったままとなる。

緋色という色について簡単に解説をしておこう。
この色は、明るめの赤色を指し、赤色と黄色の
中間の橙色にも近いもの。実際のこのキノコは
彩度も高く見た目にも美しいもので、森の中の
緑色にも良く映える色である。

Scarlet Bracket Fungus (Hiirotake)


The Hiirotake (Pycnoporus sanguineus) is a type of fungus belonging to the Polyporaceae family and the Pycnoporus genus.


This fungus has a striking scarlet color and grows on old trees, aged trees, fallen logs, and stumps. Like common bracket fungi (Polyporaceae), it forms a semi-circular shape.


Not only is the outer surface of this fungus a vivid scarlet, but its interior also retains the same brilliant color. While exposure to wind, rain, and sunlight may cause the surface to fade, the pigments inside remain unchanged for years, making it useful as a natural dye.


The flesh of Hiirotake is cork-like and leathery, with an extremely unpleasant texture. It is hard, tasteless, and odorless, making it unsuitable for consumption. Furthermore, it is not eaten by animals or insects, so it often remains on decaying wood for years without being consumed.

Scarlet is a bright shade of red, positioned between red and yellow, making it somewhat close to orange. The actual color of this fungus is highly saturated and visually striking, standing out beautifully against the greenery of the forest.
