一子侘助

一子侘助 （イチコワビスケ）


ツツジ目、ツバキ科、ツバキ属


ツバキの園芸品種であるが、ベースとなるは
薮椿（ヤブツバキ）とも云われている。


一重咲、猪口咲、筒状花と、侘助（ワビスケ）
の特徴を示す椿となる。


この椿は、愛知県の内科の医者の上田敏郎が
訪問診療で訪門先の民家の庭で見つけた椿で
新たな品種として発表したものである。その
際に命名したのが『一子侘助』で、この名は
妻の『一子』の名からとったものとされる。
牧野富太郎も、北の地で見つけた笹に妻の名
をつけた事も知られているが、その想いから
その名がこれから先も残るのは良い事と思う。

While being a horticultural variety of camellia, it is said to be based on the wild camellia (Yabutsubaki).


This camellia exhibits the characteristics of single-petaled flowers, Inuguchi-zaki (small mouth-shaped flowers), tubular flowers, and the wabisuke (simplicity and rusticity) associated with it.


Dr. Toshirō Ueda, an internist in Aichi Prefecture, discovered this camellia in the garden of a patient's house during a home visit. He introduced it as a new variety and named it 'Ichiko Wabisuke,' taking the name from his wife 'Ichiko.'

This naming tradition, inspired by personal connections, is also known in the case of botanist Tomitaro Makino, who named a bamboo after his wife in the northern region, leaving behind names with heartfelt sentiments.
