Even within the limited 50-minute class time, we could see students and instructors interacting with each other with smiles on their faces, and students actively asking questions, making it a refreshing and valuable experience for each of them.

Be Sure to Get Your HPV Vaccination and Cancer Screening
P16 HPVワクチンとがん検診を受けましょう
Contact Health Promotion Division, Health Management Section ☎ 024-575-1116
What is cervical cancer?
Cervical cancer is cancer that forms at the entrance to the uterus, and over 95% of cervical cancers are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
Although this cancer is most common among women in their 30s to 40s, its incidence among women in their 20s has been increasing in recent years. Each year, approximately 1.1 million women nationwide develop cervical cancer, and approximately 3,000 women die from the disease.
Prevent infection with the vaccine and find the cancer early with a screening and receive proper treatment.
Please scan the QR code below for further details. (you may apply via mail or on the city website)
HPV vaccine
HPV is said to infect most women at least once in their lifetime. Vaccination can prevent HPV infection.
Those eligible for vaccination
・Periodical booster shots
6th graders~1st year high school female students
・Catch up vaccinations
Females who have not yet received the vaccine and were born between 1997/4/2 and 2008/4/1
Those who wish to receive the 1st year high school catch up vaccination
You may receive the vaccination for free until the end of March 2025. The vaccination needs to be administered in 3 separate doses so please receive the first vaccination in September. The second dose will be administered at least a month later and the third dose will be administered at least 3 months after the second.
*The schedule may change depending on the exact vaccine used and the age of the patient.
Cervical cancer screenings
Screening leads to early detection and treatment of cancer and reduces the risk of loss of life.
In addition, if cancer is detected early, it can be treated without removing the uterus, and in some cases, pregnancy is possible even after cancer is detected.
Those eligible for cancer screenings (consider getting them regularly!)
Women 20 years of age and older
Date City mailed paperwork in early June to those eligible.
The screenings will take place from 2024/8/1 (Thu.) ~ 2025/2/28 (Fri.).
Consider getting a screening once every two years following your 20th birthday.

Summer is now in full swing, which means enjoying a day out while soaking up the sun’s rays is in order. When hot summer days come around, I am reminded of spending a day with my family at the local amusement park, half an hour away from my home. This particular park has attractions that have held many world records over the years and was even featured on two popular American TV shows, though they were far before my time.
In between rides we would sometimes enjoy eating ice cream or food from local restaurants, however some of the most memorable times was when my parents chose to save money and pack lunches for all of us in a cooler. Bringing food into the park is prohibited so we would have return to our car and eat our food. This may not sound very glamorous, and certainly isn’t, but there was a special, indescribable enjoyment me and many others got from this activity. It might be akin to eating lunch together with a class during a field trip or sports day, nothing is particularly special about the occasion, but it is a fond memory of mine nonetheless.
Perhaps my favorite part about trips to this amusement park is the waterpark that is situated right next it, which is usable by anyone with a ticket to the main amusement park. Here we can enjoy the water slides, lazy river, and massive pools. While in Japan, many people take great care to not expose their skin to the sun, in America having tanned skin and sunbathing are very popular. As such, you can find countless people relaxing in beach chairs all around the park, enjoying the warm sun and getting a tan!
However you choose to spend your summer, be sure to take the proper precautions to stave off heat stroke and make some time to enjoy the beautiful weather!
