Practicing erhu(二胡), Jan. 23, 2024
I would like to write about erhu today. I mostly practice my erhu on weekends. However, I had some time to practice it after dinner. One of my reasons to use English is to explain about the instrument in English better.
I still can't pronounce 'erhu', so I had trouble talking about it with my parents in law on the phone one day. My husband advised me to spell it out, "e-r-h-u", if I couldn't say it. That made sense to me.
Back to my practice tonight, I used a mute to lower the volume of the sound. It's quite loud, but my neighbors fortunately don't mind much about it. It's probably because we live in the countryside. Since it was passed 8 p.m., I used the mute just in case the sound won't disturb my neighbors. I myself sometimes feel unpleasant with the loud sound, especially when I mess up with the high tone.
Well, I had a good practice time to review some songs for the event next Saturday. Here are some pictures of my erhu.
I really enjoy playing erhu. It makes me feel relaxed and refreshed after practicing it.
By the way, if you are interested in instruments, I wrote an article about Wako (和胡)in the past. It's a instrument close to erhu, but a different one. I love the sound of both erhu and Wako.
Thank you so much for reading my articles. I hope you all had a great day.
