それなりにたくさんの音楽を聴いてきたので、感謝の言葉を伝えたくなった自分（＃４）

EAGLESに感謝。ラジオ番組で聴いた「Hotel
California」で初めてバンドの存在を知った。
リリースされた1976年頃、３～４分で完結する
シングル曲に慣れてしまっていた自分にとって、
この曲の第一印象は少し長かったが、曲の出だし
や後半のギター・ソロなど、ギター演奏に興味を
持ち始めた私にとって「カッコよく弾けるように
なりたい」と思わせてくれたとても印象深い曲だ。
この曲のヴォーカルはドラムのドン・ヘンリー。
後に、ドラムを叩きながら歌うライブ映像をみて
衝撃を受けた。

ギターで創設メンバーのグレン・フライは、全員が
ヴォーカルをとれるバンドを目指していたという
ことで、この曲に関してもメンバーのコーラスワーク
が遺憾なく発揮されている。他にも、旧メンバーの
ランディ・マイズナーが歌う「Take It to the Limit」
 でのコーラスなどは本当に感動的だ。今聴いても
色褪せることは無い。

私が若い頃に聴いた時より印象が変わった曲がある。
それは、ランディー脱退後に加入した、ベースの
ティモシー・B・シュミットが歌う
「I Can’t Tell You Why」。結構な年を重ねた今の私が
聴いた方が味わい深く、心に沁みる。音楽は自分の
成長を教えてくれる時がある。EAGLES、ありがとう。

Gratitude to the Eagles

I first discovered the band when I heard "Hotel California" on a radio show. Released around 1976, the track initially felt a bit long for someone used to singles that wrapped up in three to four minutes. However, as I started getting interested in guitar playing, the opening and the guitar solo towards the end left a deep impression on me, making me aspire to play as cool as they did. The song's vocals were by drummer Don Henley, and I was later shocked when I saw live footage of him singing while playing the drums.

Guitarist and founding member Glenn Frey aimed to create a band where everyone could sing. In this song, the members' choral work is brilliantly showcased. Other songs, like "Take It to the Limit" sung by former member Randy Meisner, have truly moving choruses that remain timeless even now.

Some songs have changed in impression since my youth. One of them is "I Can’t Tell You Why," sung by Timothy B. Schmit, who joined after Randy's departure. Now, in my older years, this song resonates with me more deeply and touchingly. Music sometimes teaches us about our own growth. Thank you, Eagles.
