Experimental Japanese
Hi 15卒JCです。
Many students in our seminar are interested in intercultural communication, so I want to share my (not very scientific) research project (and fond memories).
I like soba, and I like eggs. So 月見そば(soba with 'an' egg) has become my favourate Japanese dish.
And how to make it better? Simple, soba+2 x eggs🥚🥚
Problem was, 月見そば literally = 'moon seeing' soba -> moon 🌕= the egg yolk 🍳.
Assuming our earth has only one moon (citation needed), this poetic name presented a challenge in getting my ideal soba (2 eggs), especially at my favourite tachigui soba place where everyone ordered verbally (no ticket vending machine).
I'm no linguist, so I had to be creative. After many years of trial and error, here are my (not very scientific ->90% imaginary) results
The master eventually got tired of me and told me I could just forget the 月見 part and say そばと卵2個 to achieve 100% 🥚🥚. But for that order he would put some leeks in the centre and the eggs by the side to eliminate any references to the moon, that's professionalism!
Update 2024: all good things must come to an end 😭
