January 6, 2023: Lunch to Celebrate New Year with my daughter and her husband（娘夫婦との新年のランチ）

The other day, my daughter and her husband came to my home to celebrate the New Year. We had lunch together. While toasting with wine, we had New Year's dishes that my wife had prepared. I was glad to hear how their lives are going. She has still worked for the same company as before her marriage. She remains busy with work every day. But he lives in a place that is easier to commute to than before her marriage. Her commute time has been cut by one third. I was happy to see them in love.
My son-in-law has similarities and differences with me. According to my wife, he has a similar demeanour to mine. But his temperament is opposed to mine. He is very mild and calm. He is not short-tempered unlike me. My daughter seemed to choose a partner who has an opposite temperament to me.
After the lunch, we watched the rugby and football matches on TV. It was a great time for me. But it was only about five hours. They went off to their home in a hurry after watching them. I am now filled with loneliness.

　娘夫婦が我が家に来てくれました。お昼にワインで乾杯し、妻がつくってくれたおせち料理を食べながら、二人の近況が聞けて嬉しかったです。娘も、結婚前と同じ仕事を続けているようです。仕事は相変わらず忙しそうですが、結婚して通勤時間が三分の一になったので、楽になったようです。二人は変わらずとても仲が良さそうで安心しました。
　ご主人はボクと似ているところもあれば、正反対のところもあります。外見や雰囲気はボクに似ているのですが、性格は正反対です。冷静で落ち着いている方です。ボクのようにすぐにカッカすることはなさそうです。娘は無意識のうちにボクと正反対の性格の方を選んだようです。
　お昼の後は、ラグビーやサッカーの試合をテレビで見て過ごしました。とても楽しいひとときでした。でもこの時間もわずか5時間弱でした。二人は試合を見終わると、そそくさと帰っていきました。帰った後の寂しさに襲われています。
