August 8, 2024: Olympics, Athletics, Netherlands（オリンピック、陸上、オランダ）
The Paris Olympics is coming to an end soon. But I still have a lot of events to see. In particular, I am enjoying the track and field with many kinds of events. Among them was the 5000 metres with 2 Japanese runners, which was my focus. One of them was Nozomi Tanaka, who I expected to show her best performance. But she failed in her heat. She led the race until the last moment but was overtaken by other runners before the finish line. She was very disappointed with the result. But I am grateful that she gave her best up to and in the race.
I also found some remarkable athletes. One of them was a Dutch runner, Femke Bol, who was in the 4x400m mixed relay. She was the last runner and led the team to win the gold medal, overtaking her rivals.
I was also surprised to see a lot of Dutch supporters cheering for her and other Dutch athletes in the stadium. They are easy to find because they are always in orange wear, the national colour. These supporters reminded me of having seen a lot of campers in the Netherlands. Dutch people love them and go on holiday with them. Paris is not far from the Netherlands. It is just 500km, about a 6-hour drive, to Paris. So, they must have driven to Paris and should be enjoying the Olympics, living in the van.
パリオリンピックがまもなく終わりを迎えます。でも、まだ見たい競技がたくさんあります。特に、陸上競技はいろいろな種目があって楽しいです。その中でも注目していたのが、日本人ランナー2人が出場する5000メートルでした。そのうちの1人の田中希実選手には最高のパフォーマンスを期待していました。でも、予選で落ちてしまいました。試合では、最後までレースをリードしていたのですが、ゴール前で他のランナーに抜かれてしまいました。彼女もこの結果にとても落胆していました。でも、レース出場まで、そしてレースでもベストを尽くしてくれたことに感謝です。
また、注目すべきアスリートが他にもいました。そのひとりが、4×400m混合リレーに出場したオランダのボル選手です。彼女は最終走者で、ライバルを抜き去り、チームに金メダル獲得をもたらしました。
また、スタジアムで、彼女や他のオランダ人選手に声援を送っている多くのオランダ人サポーターを見てびっくりです。いつもナショナルカラーのオレンジ色のウェアを着ているので、すぐ目につきます。この人たちを見て、オランダでたくさんのキャンピングカーを見かけたのを思い出しました。オランダの人たちは、キャンピングカーが大好きで、これを引っ張ってバカンスに出かけます。パリはオランダからそう遠くありません。パリまではわずか500キロ、車で6時間ほどです。オランダの人たちは、きっと、パリまで車を走らせ、キャンピングカーに寝泊まりしながらオリンピックを楽しんでいるに違いありません。
