November 20, 2022: Sawako Agawa, Lecture (1)（阿川佐和子さん、講演会（1））

I had a chance to listen to a lecture by Sawako Agawa. She has many talents. She is a TV commentator as well as an essayist and novelist. In this lecture, she talked on the topic of “I, Books and Life” for about an hour and a half. It was meaningful for me since I listened to her personal experiences relating to books.
She has grown up in a family that loves reading books. Led by Hiroyuki Agawa, her father and writer, her mother and elder brother have loved reading books. Above all, the brother had been lost in reading books so much as to be called a bookworm. However, Sawako-san was not a book lover and did not read books as much as her family. Finding her reading a book made her family so happy that they tried to make no noise and let her focus on it.

　阿川佐和子さんの講演会に行ってきました。阿川佐和子は多才な方で、タレントだけでなく、エッセイストや小説家として活躍されています。今回の講演では、「私と本と人生と」という演題で話をしてくださいました。1時間半ほどの講演でしたが、本に関する体験等をたっぷりと聞かせていただき、非常に有意義に時間でした。
　彼女は、本好きの家族に囲まれていたそうです。作家のお父様である阿川弘之さんを筆頭に、お母様も大の本好きだったそうです。更に、彼女のお兄様も本の虫と言われるくらい、常に本を読んでいらしたそうです。そんな家族の中で、佐和子さんは本好きとは言えないくらい本を読まなかったそうです。彼女が本を読んでいると家族は嬉しくなり、読書に集中できるよう音を立てないようにしたくらいだそうです。
