June 4, 2023: Purchasing and Driving Automatic Cars in Europe （欧州にいた時のオートマ車かってドライブ）

About 20 years ago, I lived in Europe. At that time, it was extremely difficult to find an automatic car there. I started my European life in the Netherlands and had to buy a new car mainly to get to work. For the new car, I needed an automatic car as I had had little driven in Japan. However, it was not easy to find a new car with an automatic transmission. So I asked the Dutch staff to help me find the one, and they did. It was an Audi 80 that they managed to find. I immediately agreed to buy it. I had no choice but to buy it.
The same went for in the UK. I had the same difficulty finding an automatic car there, too. First, I went to several European car dealers. The cars were at reasonable prices, but had no automatic transmission. So I went to Japanese car dealers. They had cars with automatic transmissions, but they were more expensive than the European ones. Among them was a Mitsubishi car, the Gallant, which I chose. I chose it since it could be delivered earlier than the others. When I agreed to buy it, I was told that it was a brand-new car, but was not in fact. It had already travelled 15,000 miles. But I continue driving it since I had no choice but it.
In Europe, I drove to go to work every day and sometimes went for outings on weekends or holidays. I drove to Brussels and Bruges in Belgium and Dusseldorf in Germany from the Netherlands. I drove to the Midlands and Wales from London, too. It was a great pleasure, and fortunately, I never had any serious accidents.

　20年くらい前に欧州に住んでいましたが、その当時は、オートマ車を見つけるのに苦労しました。最初に赴任したオランダで、通勤用に車が必要になりました。ボクは日本でほとんど運転したことがなかったので、オートマ車が欲しかったのですが、なかなか見つけられませんでした。そのため、オランダ人の現地スタッフにも探してもらい、見つけたのがドイツ車のAudi80でした。これ以外に選択肢がなかったので、すぐに買いました。
そして、英国に赴任した時もオートマ車探しに苦労しました。まず、欧州車のディーラーに行きました。価格は妥当だったのですが、オートマ車はありませんでした。しかたなく、日本車のディーラーに行くと、オートマ車はあったのですが、価格は欧州車より高かったです。その中で選んだのが、三菱のギャランでした。この車の納車が一番早かったのでこれにしました。でも、買った時は、新品だと言われたのですが、納車後に確認したら、すでに1万5000マイルも走行していました。でも、これ以外に選択肢がなかったので、これを乗り続けました。
　欧州にいる頃は、通勤で毎日運転していました。週末や休暇時には、遠出もしました。オランダからベルギーのブラッセルやブルージュ、ドイツのデュッセルドルフにも行きました。また、ロンドンからミッドランドやウェールズにも行きました。欧州では毎日通勤で車を運転していましたが、大きな事故をおこすことはありませんでした。幸い、大きな事故もなく、とても楽しかったです。
