Influenza （インフルエンザ）
Japan has now been hit by an epidemic of the flu. It has been widely reported in the media. On TV, I have seen a lot of patients rushing to clinics.
My wife is very cautious about everything and always takes the best she can do before she has suffered from it. This time, she had already done it. She has had the vaccination at the office.
My daughter is usually not as cautious as my wife and has no intention to do the same thing as my wife. But this time, she is more cautious than before. This is probably because she has got a child. I do not know whether she and her child have been vaccinated or not. But they, especially, my granddaughter, must have been. She must have been strongly urged to have it by some authority. Of course, it does not always protect them from the flu. Sometimes, it may not work well or can may go wrong. I hope that they will not be infected.
In my family, it is I, myself, who seem to be highly infected. As far as I remember, I have never been vaccinated for the last 4 decades. And I have never infected by the flu. Nor have I caught a cold in the winter. So, I have had no intention to get the vaccine this year, too. But I am now a bit puzzled. I was a bit afraid of the flu's fury. And I have received a letter from my city hall to urge me to get the vaccine. In addition, I was infected by the COVID-19 last year, which I had never expected to catch. So, it seems that I had better the vaccine. But I still expect to protect myself from the flu unless I go out to Tokyo. It is silly that I am unable to decide such a thing. But I am not yet ready to decide it.
日本は今、インフルエンザの流行に見舞われています。メディアでも大きく報道されており、テレビでは、多くの患者が診療所に殺到しているのを目にします。
ボクの妻は何事にも用心深く、自分が罹る前にできる最善の策を常に講じます。今回も同様です。会社で予防接種を受けています。
娘は妻ほど用心深くなく、妻と同じことをするつもりはありません。でも、今回は以前より慎重です。子供ができたからでしょう。娘と子供が予防接種を受けているかどうかは知りませんが、接種してるしているはずです。特に、孫娘は。公的機関から、接種を強く勧められているはずですので。もちろん、予防接種をしたからといって必ずインフルエンザにかからないわけではありません。うまくいかないこともあるし、ひどくなる場合もあります。感染しないことを願うばかりです。
我が家で、一番感染しそうなのが、ボクなのです。覚えている限りでは、この40年間、一度も予防接種を受けたことがありません。そしてインフルエンザに感染したこともありません。冬に風邪を引いたこともありません。なので、今年もワクチンを接種するつもりはありませんでした。でも、今、ちょっと迷っています。インフルエンザの猛威に少しおののいています。しかも、市役所からワクチン接種を促す手紙が届きました。さらに、昨年はまさかのコロナに感染してしまいました。というわけで、ワクチンは打っておいたほうがよさそうです。でも、東京に出向かない限りはインフルエンザに罹らないとも思っています。こんなことを決めかねている自分がバカバカしいのですが、まだ決めかねています。
