"Spending" time.「過ごす」時間。

It is said that the way people perceive things can be seen through the words they use to describe things. 
物事を表現する言葉から、人の物の見方がわかると言われています。

Through a conversation, I was brought to think about what "time" might be.                                                                                                                       会話を通して、「時間」とは何かを考えさせられました。

This is exactly what I would like to introduce today, the differences in how the English and Japanese language describes "time".                        これがまさに今日紹介したいことです。英語と日本語の「時間」の表現の違いです。

I think, in Japanese, the phrase "時間を過ごす" (spending time) is commonly used when talking about using time to do something.              日本語では、時間を使って何かをするということを言うとき、                 「時間を過ごす」という言葉がよく使われると思います。

However, in English, the word used is "spend", this is the same word used when talking about buying things.                                                                しかし、英語では「spend」という言葉が使われています。これは物を買うことについて話すときに使われる言葉と同じです。

Just as a person "spends" money to buy something, a person "spends" time to do something. This is the basic idea.                                                    人が何かを買うためにお金を「spend する 」のと同じように、人は何かをするために時間を「spend する 」。こんな感じです。

Then I thought, the English idea of "time" might be similar to money and other resources.                                                                                               それから、英語の「時間」の考え方は、お金やその他のリソースに似ているのではないかと思いました。

It is up to the decision of people to choose how to spend time, and just like money, that time spent is consumed.                                                     時間をどのように使うかは人々の決断次第であり、お金と同じように、費やした時間は消費されます。

Both time and money are very valuable, and are thought to be essential to life.                                                                                                                時間とお金の両方が非常に貴重であり、生活に不可欠であると考えられています。

However, there is one large difference between time and money, unlike money, time cannot be created.                                                                    しかし、時間とお金には大きな違いが1つあります。                                    お金とは異なり、時間を作ることはできません。

Things that have form are necessary, but the things that do not have shape like time might be more precious.                                                      形のあるものは必要ですが、時間のような形のないものの方が重要かもしれませんね。
