オンライン読書会　joined an online book club

　オンラインの「英語読書会」に初参加。アメリカのニュース記事を読むことが多いようだが、それはとてもムリそう。それに、読むのが楽しいのがいい。それで"パディントン"を原文で読む日にエントリーした。

しかしどれくらいのレベルの方が集まるのか、子供の物語といっても、理解できるかわからないので、見学者として参加。

結局、途中から、一緒にやりませんかということで、1行ずつ英文音読して訳すというルーチンに加えていただいた。

参加は10人前後、全員女性。あーそーよね。これが日本人の特徴なのかどうかわからないけど、勉強の場はいつも女性ばかりだ。

学ぶこと、交流することに躊躇なく、熱意をもって真面目に物事に取り組む場の中心は、いつも女性たちだ。しかし社会構造はそういう人が報われるようにはなっていない。

少しずつ変わってはいるけど。もう100年あとに生まれたかった。生まれるのが早すぎたな。

ちなみに読書会は、意味のわからない単語や文章がいっぱいあったけど、通訳をやっているオーガナイーザーがその都度教えてくれる。全体のレベルも自分よりやや理解度高ぐらいのちょうどいいカンジで、楽しかった。疲れたけど。

終わったあと、イギリス式ティータイムを味わいたくなったよ。子供のころ夢中になり、いまだに宝物の、「赤毛のアンシリーズ」「メアリーポピンズシリーズ」「2人のロッテ」「若草物語シリーズ」。またかたっぱしから読もうかと思ってる。

  　I joined an online book club last weekend. In this club,every participant takes a turn reading English articles or sometimes children’s tales. At first we read the English sentences aloud , and then we translate from English into Japanese . When you don’t know a word’s meaning, the organizer teaches you .
　This was my first time, and I chose “Paddington” from the assignment books list, because I assumed a tale for children might be easier for me than kinds of political issues, and I was right . There were many unknown words of course , but the organizer helped me . I enjoyed this time. I learned not only grammar, but also customs in England like afternoon teatime.Actually, I’ve always loved books for children even now. The "Mary Poppins series""Anne of Green Gables series" and "The Double Lottie(Das doppelte Lottchen)" are still my treasured favourites.
