WFH(Work from home) 5/27

Today, I’ve been working all day. I’m working from home. I think I can work at my own pace. When I want to work, I can work even at mid night. When I want to take a rest, I can do. It is very comfortable. However, I think it is a little bit difficult for bosses to manage employees. If some employees are procrastinators, they may not work hard. Workers are staying at home in the work time so they can pretend to work. 

Many companies don’t evaluate employees by their outcome. Even if they pretend to work at home, bosses have problem to evaluate them.  In order to avoid it, companies have to introduce some new systems of evaluation if they want to introduce remote work system. 

However, I guess it is very hard for Japanese company. Generally speaking, many Japanese companies have lifetime employment system. Workers tend to work for the companies they entered after graduating, until retirement. There are many ages in the same company so that elderly people tend to be evaluate better than younger people. Every company has unique culture, therefore the culture keep the systems from changing.

I don’t think lifetime employment is evil. Actually, this system prevent the company from evolving. But this system has many merits, too. In the United States, great number of people have lost their jobs after spreading COVID-19. The number is much larger than the number of Japan. Japanese company tend to keep employees job security.

Thinking company system is essential, but difficult. I don’t have clear answers. If I have to say, I think every company should change the evaluation system and introduce remote work more. In fact, the people who doesn’t work at home are not few. Employees have to work because they get money. If some workers can waste their time, companies’ assignment is not appropriate. Of course, I have to try improving myself and working hard. However, old-fashion system can demotivate younger people. Many talented younger people go abroad and join foreign companies. I think it is not good for Japanese society.
