地方大学の生き残り。
春があっという間に過ぎて、夏の装いに変わりつつありますが、みなさんはいかがお過ごしでしょうか。私は寒暖の差が激しいところに住んでいますので、毎日少しずつ着すぎて授業を汗だくでするという失敗を繰り返しています。
さて、新学期が始まって１ヶ月が過ぎ少しずつすべてが落ち着いてきたような気がします。私も大学教員になって３年目なので、これまでと比べるとかなり余裕をもって授業に取り組めている実感があります。それでも、毎日次の授業のことが頭から離れないのが少しイヤになってきました。
授業以外にも大学教員にはいろいろな仕事がまわってきます。その１つが委員会活動です。私が勤めている大学では人数が少ない割には数多くの委員会があるので、少なくとも３つ以上の委員会に所属しなければなりません。私が所属している委員会の１つに広報委員会というのがあります。これは大学の広報について考える委員会です。
ちなみに委員会活動は不定期に開催されます。大抵委員長と事務局の都合で日程決められて、私のような底辺教員には決定事項だけ通知されてきます。しかし、ペイペイの教員にはそのことに異論を唱えるなどもっての他のことなので、諦めて粛々と他の業務を片付けて委員会に参加しています。
前置きが長くなりましたが、先日今年度第１回目の広報委員会が開催されました。私は昨年度からの継続なのですが、委員長が変わったので委員会の雰囲気が少し変わったような気がします。ところが、もう一人昨年度から継続している先生がいるのですが、どうもその先生の考え方と私はあまり合いません。
何が合わなかというとその先生は東京から来られているのですが、どうしても東京のやり方を当て込もうとするんです。私たちは人口１０万人にも満たない町にある小さな大学です。そんな弱小地方大学に学生だけで１万人もいる大学の広報戦略を活用しようとしても、無理があるとしか思えないのは私だけでしょうか。（「マグロを育てよう！」みたいなことです。）
そして、もう１つ合わないのは何かとIT活用しようとの提案をされるのです。確かにこのご時世ITを活用するのは当たり前ですが、地方ではまだまだITに馴染んでいない部分もあります。アクセス数の分析も大事だと思いますが、地方の大学では地元のステークホルダーを大事にすることが最優先だと私は考えています。
地方には地方のよさがあります。しかし、これまで若い人たちは地方の良さにあまり目が向かず都会へのあこがれが強かったと思います。ところがあの方の影響で以前ほど都会への強いあこがれは少なくなったような気がします。地元志向が強くなっている今だからこそ地元の企業や自治体とタッグを組んで学生を受け入れる体制づくりが重要ではないでしょうか。どこかの模倣に終始するのではなく、その大学のオリジナルをどう創り出していくのかという議論をしたいと思った委員会活動でした。

Spring has passed so quickly that it is changing into a summer outfit. How are you doing? I live in a place where the temperature is very different, so every day I wear too much and sweat too much in class.
Well, it's been a month since the start of the new school term, and I feel that everything has gradually settled down. It's been 3 years since I became a college teacher, so I feel that I can work on classes with a lot of leeway compared to before. Even so, I don't want to keep thinking about the next class every day.
In addition to classes, various jobs are given to university teachers. One of them is committee activities. At the college where I work, there are many committees for a small number of people, so I have to belong to at least three. One of the committees I belong to is the Public Relations Committee. This is a committee to think about college public relations.
By the way, committee activities are held irregularly. Usually, the schedule is decided by the chairman and the secretariat, and the teacher at the bottom like me is informed of the decision. However, I disagree with the teachers at the bottom of the scale, and this is something else, so I give up and I am participating in the committee after finishing other work.
The first public relations committee of this year was held the other day. I have been doing this since last year, but I feel that the atmosphere of the committee has changed a little because the chairman has changed. However, there is another teacher who has continued since last year, but I don't think his way of thinking matches me very much.
The teacher is from Tokyo, but he always tries to take the Tokyo way into account. We are a small college in a town of less than 100,000 people. I am the only one who thinks it is unreasonable to use the publicity strategy of a university with 10,000 students in such a small local college. (It's like, "Let's grow tuna!".)
Then, they suggest to use IT with other things that do not match. It is true that it is natural to use IT in these times, but there are still areas where people are not familiar with IT in local areas. I think it is important to analyze the number of accesses, but I believe that the top priority for local universities is to respect local stakeholders.
The countryside has the goodness of the country. However, I think that until now, young people did not pay much attention to the goodness of the countryside and had a strong yearning for the city. But I feel that his strong longing for the city has decreased as much as before. I think it is important to establish a system to accept students in cooperation with local companies and municipalities, especially now that people are becoming more local-oriented. I wanted to discuss how to create the university's originality, rather than just trying to imitate something.
