ベトナムに来ております。ハノイの方。

昼くらいに着いたので、約半日経過しての感想など。

VietJet

飛行機はLCCしか乗らないので、今回はVietJet。
当初の予定では16000円くらいでチケット取ってたんだけど、諸事情で日程を変えたので、多分２万円くらいのチケットになった。

変更手数料ではなく、あくまで運賃の差額ということだけど、僕が見た限り、日程変更すると必ず運賃が底上げされるように感じる（少なくとも、セール料金などは反映されない）

空港

まぁキレイ。トイレも、全然タイとかと同じような印象（といってもタイの記憶も僅かなのだけど）。少なくとも、なんの違和感も感じなかった（僕が慣れてる可能性もある）

インド＜ランカウイ＜フィリピン＜ベトナム＜タイ＜シンガポール
みたいな？（記憶は曖昧）

ただ、イミグレ死ぬほど時間掛かった。。

人が遅いわけではなく、使ってる機械が遅そうだった。

あと単純に、来る人が多い。

並んでる時は韓国語、ベトナム語が聞こえ、もちろん欧米の方もチラホラって感じだった。

ATM

WISEで無事に現金下ろせたんだけど、上限が300万ドンで、1万８千円程度しか下ろせず…。今日市内のATMをチラッと見たら、500万まで下ろせるATMは近所に見つけた。

何が問題って、WISEは月2回まで手数料無料。つまり、2回に抑えたいのだ。。

まぁそんなにお金使わんと思う（というか使いたくない）けど、ちょいと不安。

SIM

効果あるか分からんけど、出口付近のでかい店の勧誘は避けて、奥まったお店に行ってみた。ただ、言い値で流れのままに進めてしまい、相場感不明。あと、容量不明（え

40日で60万ドン。渡されたカード（SIMが付いてる、Amazonギフト券的な形状のやつ）には、通信会社のデフォで「40万ドン」と書いてあった。

タクシー

Grabを使おうとしたが、なんか３箇所の乗り場で全部「黄色三角」が出てて、うまく予約できない（調べれば方法あったかも）。

そんなでウロウロしてると、早速勧誘が。

１度断ったが、雨も強くなってきて、「別に多少ボラれてもいいか…」とか思ってたら、再び彼がタイミングよく登場。

「320だ」と言われ、脳内にある僅かな記憶から「ホテルの送迎サービスよりは安いか」と思い、承諾。ちなみに、ここまで英語。

※ちなみに、のちに調べたところ、相場は350~、ホテルのサービスは380だった

案の定、別の若い運転手に身柄を引き渡され、不安な旅が始まる。ここからベトナム語。

空港を出ると早速、Google翻訳を介して「空港使用料◯◯万ドンです」と言われる。すかさず「No」と断ると、再び「あなたは空港使用料を支払う必要がある」的なことを言われたので、「いや、その必要はない、俺は知ってる」的なことを英語で言ったら、Google翻訳（彼のスマホ）を音声認識（英語）の状態で渡されたので、同じセリフを言う。

発音矯正しててよかった、無事に一言一句聞き取られた。それでもしつこかったが、時折ベトナム語も混ぜながら畳みかけたら、彼は苦笑して折れた。「không」は言えるようにしておこう。

その後、スッとGoogle翻訳を渡された。「あなたは旅慣れてますね」

しかし、降りる時になって再びふっかけられる。「350だ」と。
そこで今度は数字をベトナム語で言う。こっちは言えるんだぞ！（何の脅し？）

でもこれが案外効く。笑

多分、外国人でベトナム語を話す人といえば、出張とかで相当ベトナムに慣れてる人たち。彼らからボッタくるのはほぼ不可能なので、「ベトナム語を話す人＝ボッタくるのは無理」という構図が成り立つのかも知れない。やはり、現地語を話せて損なし。

ホテル

まぁ、いい感じ。何よりスタッフさんが親切。

「チョラベ？」と言われて意味不明だったが、あぁ、「Travel」か、と気づく。ベトナム語で「Tr」の発音は、ほぼ「Ch」なのだ。やはり、現地語を話せて損なし（2回目）。

ホテル周辺

多少散策したけど、途中で大雨になって帰宅。

たまたまかもだけど、東南アジアのスコールと違って、こないだの日本の台風の時みたく、大雨が数時間降り続く感じ。これは想定外。。旅行者にとって雨はキツイ。屋台とか行きたいんだけどなぁ。。

そんな感じなので、まだ全然確定的なことは言えないけど、
・街並みがすごく綺麗（それこそタイとか並み）
・その分？、人が（冷たくはないが）クール。東南アジアのノリは無い
ってので、個人的な好みで言ってしまうと、完全にフィリピンの方が好きだった。笑

まぁまだ分からんです。この地域だけかも分からんので。

I’ve arrived in Vietnam, specifically Hanoi.

I landed around noon, so here are my impressions after roughly half a day.

VietJet

I only fly with LCCs, so this time I chose VietJet. Initially, the ticket was around ¥16,000, but due to some changes in my schedule, it ended up costing around ¥20,000. It wasn’t a change fee, just a fare difference, but I feel like the price always gets bumped up when you change the dates, and sale fares don't seem to apply.

Airport

The airport is clean, and the bathrooms felt no different than those in Thailand (though I barely remember Thailand). At least, nothing felt out of place — maybe because I’m used to traveling. Comparing my experiences: India < Langkawi < Philippines < Vietnam < Thailand < Singapore (though my memory is vague).

However, immigration took forever. It wasn’t that the staff were slow, but the machines seemed sluggish. Plus, there were just a lot of people.

While waiting in line, I could hear Korean, Vietnamese, and even some Europeans here and there.

ATM

I successfully withdrew cash with WISE, but the limit was 3 million VND (around ¥18,000). Later, I found an ATM in the city that allowed up to 5 million VND. WISE offers two fee-free withdrawals per month, so I want to limit my transactions. I don’t plan to spend much, but it’s a bit concerning.

SIM

Not sure if it made a difference, but I avoided the large shops near the exit and went to a quieter one. I ended up going with the price they offered without knowing the usual rate or data limit (oops). It was 600,000 VND for 40 days. The card I got even said “400,000 VND” on it by default.

Taxi

I tried using Grab, but three different locations showed yellow triangles, and I couldn’t book a ride (maybe I missed something in the settings). While wandering around, someone approached me offering a ride. I declined initially, but as the rain picked up, I thought, “Maybe it’s okay to get slightly overcharged...” Then, the same guy reappeared, offering a ride for 320,000 VND. I remembered that the hotel’s service was more expensive, so I agreed. We spoke in English up to this point.

Upon checking later, I found the usual rate is around 350,000 VND, and the hotel service charges 380,000 VND.

I was handed over to a younger driver, and the adventure continued in Vietnamese. As soon as we left the airport, through Google Translate, he told me I needed to pay an airport fee. I quickly said “No,” and when he repeated the claim, I confidently told him in English, “I know that’s not necessary.” He handed me his phone to speak into the Google Translate app. Thankfully, my pronunciation was clear, and he understood everything. He kept insisting, but I threw in some Vietnamese here and there, and eventually, he gave up with a smile. A useful phrase to know: “không” (no).

Later, as we approached my destination, he tried again: “It’s 350,000 VND.” This time, I responded with the number in Vietnamese. It worked! I guess speaking a bit of the local language can deter scams. It seems that those who speak Vietnamese are usually seasoned travelers, and the chances of successfully overcharging them are slim.

Hotel

Pretty nice. The staff are super kind. When one asked, “Cholabe?” I was confused at first but quickly realized they meant “Travel.” In Vietnamese, “Tr” is pronounced almost like “Ch.” Once again, speaking the local language came in handy.

Around the Hotel

I did a bit of exploring, but then a heavy downpour forced me back. Unlike the brief squalls typical in Southeast Asia, this rain reminded me of the typhoon that hit Japan recently — hours of continuous rain. It wasn’t what I expected. I’d hoped to visit the street food stalls, but the rain made it tough.

So, I can’t say anything definitive yet, but:

• The streets are really clean (on par with places like Thailand)

• As a result, maybe the people are cool (not cold). There's none of that typical Southeast Asian vibe.

Personally, I liked the vibe in the Philippines much more. Haha.

But I’m not sure yet. It could just be this area.
