（患難は忍耐を生み出し、）
忍耐は錬達を生み出し、錬達は希望を生み出すことを、知っているからである。

信仰者は、神の約束の言葉をそのまま信じ、神の答えは直ぐに来なくても希望を持って待ち続る。
Believers believe God's words of promise as they are and wait with hope for God's answer,
even if it does not come immediately.

この聖句は、信仰者が苦難に直面したときに、その苦難を乗り越えるために必要な忍耐力と、その忍耐力を磨くために必要な練達力、そして、その練達力を見につけることで得られる希望について説明しています。
信仰者が少数者である国において、信仰をもっているだけで、家族、職場の同僚、学校の同級生、近所の住民から、偏見をもった扱いを受けることがあります。
そのようなときに、聖書の教え、「敵のために祈れ」などの言葉によって忍耐力が磨かれます。
それによって人格の品性が聖められ、困難な将来であっても希望を持つことができるということは、歴史的に多くの信仰者が証明しています。
私は、信仰の先輩たちを見習い、神の助けを得て信仰の試練に立ち向かい力が与えられるようにと祈ります。
 
This passage describes the perseverance that believers need to overcome hardship when faced with it, the discipline needed to hone that perseverance, and the hope that comes from discovering that discipline.
In a country where believers are a minority, simply being a believer can lead to prejudiced treatment from family members, co-workers, schoolmates, and neighbors.
At such times, patience is sharpened by biblical teachings and words such as "pray for your enemies.
This sanctifies the character of the personality and allows us to have hope even in a difficult future, as many people of faith have proven historically.
I pray that I may follow the example of my predecessors in the faith, and with God's help, be given strength to face the trials of faith.
