I have retired

I have retired.

Jun. 30 was my last day at Mainichi Broadcasting System, Inc. where I had been working for over 40 years.

At the last meeting I attended, I was asked to make a speech, so I talked about the Beatles’ song “When I’m Sixty-four”.

The following is the summary of what I said:

These days, the Beatles’ song “When I’m Sixty-four” has been playing over and over within my brain just like an earworm, even though I’m not such a huge fan of the Beatles or this song.

I guess it is because 64 is the last year to be employed in this company.

The lyrics go like this:

Will you still need me?
Will you still feed me?
When I'm sixty-four

“When I’m Sixty-four” Paul McCartney & John Lennon 

Hearing this song, I realized all at once that the company had replied to this song; “We don’t need you. We can’t feed you anymore when you hit sixty-five”.

Well, I’m not complaining or accusing the company. I’m not sad at all.

I think generational change is indispensable for the world to improve and sustain itself.

I had been thinking that older people should always give way a little to the younger ones, and now it’s my turn, I noticed.

So, I don’t want to leave you with any advice that is kind of outdated.

Old men should just retire, so give it a try and make it better.
