【Short story 】In the pool

My mon used to be a model and my dad is still an actor. 

Mom retired from her job when I was born. Most Japanese people over 40 know her but people under 30 don’t. 

Dad is a famous actor on TV programs and movies. Now he appears in a TV drama series with Oguri Shun. 

I’m a 15 year old boy. I have been attending an international school since kindergarten. 

Children of celebrities tend to be bullied when they go to Japanese schools. That's why I’m protected by attending an international school.

Our house is in Jiyugaoka. There are many celebrities and foreigners, and we can live quietly and relatively inconspicuously.

One day, I went with my dad to the luxury sports club he belongs to. 

He greeted a legendary baseball player he happened to see at the pool there.

I didn't know the man, but he approached me rapidly. He asked about me to my dad. 

"Did you have such a handsome son? He is cool. What's his name?"

"I'm Daichi."

He squinted and hurriedly touched my body. Not only my arms and shoulders, but also my chest and stomach in the water. his eyes were moist.

It's not the first time I've had this kind of experience, but it's unpleasant. I looked to my dad for help. 

He pretended not to notice and was smiling. He may not have wanted to quarrel with a celebrity higher than himself.

The one who saved me from despair was a girl who was a year older than me at the same school.

Come to think of it, I heard that she also lives in Jiyugaoka. Because we were in different grades, we didn't talk much.

"Hi Daichi! Are you a member here too?"

"No, I came here for the first time, with my father."

She is American, but she seems to know that I'm the son of an actor.

My heart is pounding. My dad came up to me and said,

"Nice to meet you. Are you a friend of my son's school? It's a coincidence to meet here."

She stared at my father with a meaningful smile. And she said in English:

"What do you think of a man who cannot protect his son's dignity?"

She left the pool before she could hear his answer. In fact, my dad couldn’t understand the meaning of the question because he isn’t an English speaker. 

"What did she say now?"

"Hmm, I'm going home"

"What?"

On the way home, my dad asked me in the car, "Do you want to become a family member of this gym?"

I smiled and said "NO".
