TOPIC Nowadays, people use bicycles less frequently as a form of transport. Why is this the case? What can be done to encourage the use of bicycles?

In the last few decades, there has been a profound increase in the number of people avoiding the use of bicycles as a mode of transport. The main causes of this development are infrastructural inadequacies and lifestyle changes. To stimulate people's appetite for using bicycles, one optimal approach I would like to suggest is that local municipalities educate individuals the health benefits of using bicycles and provide necessary infrastructures prompting us to ride bicycles with ease.

To begin with, there is an argument to be made that a lack of basic infrastructures discourages numerous people from proactively using bicycles, which leads to shrinking the popularity of bikes. To illustrate this point, many cities are not equipped with safe and extensive cycling lanes, making it dangerous for cyclists to navigate through traffic. For this reason, it is clearly evident that there are less supportive environments allowing us to utilise bicycles, owing to a dearth of adequate traffic systems. Furthermore, the general consensus among countless experts across the field of various disciplines is that a big shift in people's lifestyles is a contributing factor in the diminishing proportion of people using bicycles. With the use of convenience-oriented services and the widespread availability of affordable motorbike vehicles, people are less inclined to engage in physical activities such as cycling. This being the case, it is not unreasonable to assume that the convenience and speed of cars and motorcycles often outweigh the perceived benefits of cycling, especially in densely populated areas where time is a critical factor.

As for countermeasures against this ongoing trend outlined above, I firmly believe that local municipalities need to make strenuous efforts to offer sufficient infrastructures, allowing people to use bicycles in public places. To exemplify, it is imperative to build cycling lanes which are capable of providing safe and extensive spaces for cyclists to enjoy riding bicycles. With this in mind, there is no doubt that we can create interactive atmospheres in which both cyclists and drivers can feel a sense of shared productivity in diverse traffic roads. Another strategy to note is that, considering the fact that the sedentary lifestyles have been gaining their popularity among contemporary citizens, local municipalities ought to underscore the importance of bicycles when it comes to our health benefits. Research and experiments conducted by innumerable experts have cited the fact that the people's tendency to lead a sedentary lifestyle thanks to the development of computers has detrimental effects on our health conditions. Given this, it is undeniable that encouraging the use of bicycles is of great benefits to ameliorating the quality of our life.

To conclude from the aforementioned discussion, as there have been multiple factors to prevent us from using bicycles, local municipalities ought to improve infrastructures and educate people the health benefits of riding bicycles in order to  increase the number of cyclists.
