TOPIC The international community must act immediately to ensure all nations reduce their consumption of fossil fuels like gas and oil. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There are those who argue that it is imperative for international communities to take proactive actions for allowing every nation to stop utilizing the use of fossil fuels like gas and oil. Despite some opposition, I am convinced that this argument is quite compelling as dependence on fossil fuels is a root cause of aggravating climate change and inflicts a heavy damage on flora and fauna.
Critics of this stance maintain that there are some countries which depend on fossil fuels. To illustrate, China has attached great importance to the utilization of fossil fuels as they are vital sources for providing a stable supply for energy resources. Without these resources, there would be every likelihood that innumerable people in this country suffer from a sheer lack of access to indispensable energy, which makes it impossible for them to lead their sustainable lives. Moreover, it is often pointed out that introducing renewable energies like water and wind instead of fossil fuels serves as an optimal solution to ameliorating environmental conditions. Although such a strategy seems practical, the effectiveness of renewable sources is undoubtedly dubious because these energies are heavily reliant on meteorological factors. Given that weather patterns are erratic, it is safe to say that using renewable sources as an alternative is impractical.
Despite these concerns, I firmly believe that comprehensive measures taken by international communities to wean all nations off fossil fuels are indispensable. One key reason is that a growing body of research has indicated that over-dependence on fossil fuels is conducive to exacerbating climate change. Therefore, it is not unreasonable to assume that if countries continue to use fossil fuels, devastating impacts brought on by climatic disasters like heavy rain and droughts take a huge toll on our lives. Additionally, a general consensus among a vast majority of experts is that the excessive use of fossil fuels has immense potential to adversely affect animals and plants. To exemplify, creating spaces for factories which produce gas and oils requires a huge amount of land, which severely deprives the creatures of a habitat to live sustainably. With this in mind, it is obvious that various types of flora and fauna are incapable of living in such a harsh environment.
In conclusion, although there are certain individuals insisting that fossil fuels are vital resources in some aspects of society, I am of the opinion that international communities should make strenuous efforts to prevent all nations from using fossil fuels. This is because not only do fossil fuels worsen climate change but also they negatively influence flora and fauna.
