一雨潤千山（いちうせんざんをうるおす）

ひとしきりの雨があらゆる山を潤す。
熱せられ乾き切った地に恵みの雨が降りそそぎ、潤いを取り戻して、植物が生き生きと蘇る。爽やかな夏の情景を表した禅語と解釈されています。

私はこの禅語にふれると、酷暑の夕立を思い起こします。

強い日差しに一日中晒され、あらゆるものが熱せられ乾き切った酷暑の夕方。
みるみるうちに空に黒い雲が立ち込め、さっきまでの日差しが嘘のように辺りは暗くなり、そしてゴロゴロと腹に響く雷鳴とともに、突然大粒の雨が打ち付けはじめます。
まさにバケツをひっくり返したような雨。屋根からは滝のように水が流れ落ち、道路や庭に川のような流れが生まれます。

しかし、あっという間に雨足は弱まり、立ち込めていた分厚い雲もいつの間にか去り、雲間から強い日差しが一筋また一筋と、地面を照らし出します。
そして、濡れた地面や植物、家々の屋根や道路、あらゆるものが日差しに照らされ、まるで世界が生まれ変わったかのように潤い、輝いている光景が目に映ります。

恵みの雨は乾き切ったあらゆるものに潤いを与え、またみずみずしく世界がはじまる。
そして私は世界の美しさを改めて目にする。そんな光景を思い出すのです。

この壮大で美しい光景は、なにも特別なものではありません。
日々巡る大自然のいとなみの一部、当たり前の光景なのです。

そんな大きな命の巡りの一部に私も在るという事実に、改めて感動し、感謝します。

夏の夕立が通り過ぎる雨宿りのあいだに、思い出してほしい禅語です。

A single rainfall moistens every mountain. The heated and parched land is bathed in a bountiful rain that restores moisture and revitalizes the vegetation.

This Zen phrase expresses a refreshing summer scene.

When I think of this phrase, I am reminded of an evening shower during a very hot summer.

Evenings are extremely hot when everything has been heated up and dried out by the strong sunlight all day long.

Then, with a rumble of thunder that rumbles in your stomach, a heavy shower of rain suddenly begins to pound down.

It is like an overturned bucket of rain. Water cascades down from the roofs and flows like a river over the streets and gardens.

But in no time at all, the rain begins to slow down, and the thick clouds that had been gathering soon dissipate, allowing a ray or two of sunlight to shine through and illuminate the ground.

The wet ground, plants, roofs of houses, roads and everything else is illuminated by the sunlight. The world is moistened and shining as if it has been reborn.

The rain of grace moistens everything that has dried up, and the world begins to be fresh again.

And I see the beauty of the world anew. I remember such a scene.

This magnificent and beautiful scene is nothing special.

It is a natural part of nature's daily life cycle.

I am moved once again by the fact that I am part of such a great cycle of life and I am grateful for it.

This is a Zen phrase that I would like you to remember as you take shelter from the passing summer evening showers.
