It’s clear by now that we may be headed for a recession within the next few months or years.

Global economies printed too much money during the pandemic which led to high inflation in 2021 and leading into 2022. Inflation is also rising due to high consumer demand, supply chain issues, and war in Europe. This is forcing the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates at the fastest pace we have seen in decades. Higher interest rates lead to less spending which can cause a recession. Recession fears have been driving markets down since November 2021.

Crypto has not avoided the recent market downturn. Since the Fed turned hawkish in November 2021, the total crypto market has dropped over 50% from $3 trillion to $1.1 trillion.

This is scary for many who haven’t experienced a downturn to this degree.

I’ll provide my thoughts on how crypto will react during this recession and what the outcomes will be after it’s over.

1. Crypto Will Stay Correlated to the Stock Market

Ever since the pandemic crash in March 2020, crypto has been positively correlated to the stock market. This correlation has only gotten stronger since the market started to reverse in November 2021.

According to analyst Will Clemente, Bitcoin has never been as correlated to the stock market as it is today.
