In Japan, I sometimes see dates at a supermarket near my home.
Whenever I find dates, I always look to see where they are imported from.
So far, all the dates I have found in supermarkets in Japan have been from Iran.
According to the "Japan Dates" website, the world's top five date producers in 2020 are Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Algeria, and Iraq.
I was a bit curious as to why all the dates I saw in Japan were from Iran.
Because it is the world's largest producer, Japan does not necessarily buy a lot of dates from that country.
Cacao beans are an example.
The world's largest cacao producer is Cote d'Ivoire.
However, about 80% of Japan's cacao bean imports come from Ghana.
Why do so many dates sold in supermarkets come from Iran?

可能性はいくつかあります。
・私が偶然イラン産のデーツばかりを見つけている。 他のところではエジプト産やサウジアラビア産が売っている。
・金額や味などなにかの理由で日本にはイラン産のデーツが適している。
・エジプト産やサウジアラビア産は一般消費者向けではなく他の食品の材料として輸入されている。
などの可能性です。
オタフクソースという有名なソースがあります。 オタフクソースには甘みを出す原料としてデーツを使っていることを私は知っていました。
それで、オタフクソースのサイトを見てみたら、オタフクソースはサウジアラビア産のデーツを使っていることがわかりました。

にはこんな事が書いてありました。「2021年の輸入相手は13ケ国。輸入額8.8億円のうち、チュニジアからが27.5％を占めて最も大きく、次いで米国26.2％、イラン14.2％の順。これら上位3つで全体の7割近くを占める。」
日本の輸入の半分はチュニジアとアメリカからなんですね。
自分が見えているものが全てだと思ってはいけないですね。
