日記93 : Disaster Prevention Day
Apparently, today is Disaster Prevention Day, which is based on the date of the Great Kantō earthquake. I didn’t know how to say “disaster prevention” in English. When I was told, I thought it was the exact meaning, but I couldn’t come up with the phrase myself.
Japan is a country prone to earthquakes, so there is a lot of information and many campaigns for disaster preparation. I’m curious about other countries’ disaster management, but from a quick search, I could hardly find information outside Japan, maybe because of my location. However, I learned that there is an International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction designated by the UN.
Actually, my current house is so tiny that I can’t store enough water. In situations like this, it seems that the idea of “rolling stock” will work, which means that you can keep stocks for disaster preparation by using them and buying new ones. I could find articles that refer to this concept only in Japan, so maybe this term originated in Japan.
