【怪談】鬼の面

大きな家に、かわいらしい坊やがいた。

ある日、ひとり土蔵で遊んでいたら
鬼の面を見つけた。

鬼の面があるという話は聞いていた。

家宝として秘蔵されている、と。
これをかぶると人の心が読める、と。

さっそく鬼の面をかぶるや、坊やは
そのまま家を出て、近所を歩きまわった。

人の心がおもしろいように読める。

鬼の面に驚く人などいなかった。
かぶっていても誰も気づかないのだ。

坊やの心に大人の心が入ってきた。

家に帰っても面をはずさなかった。
おもしろくてはずせなかったのだ。

そして、坊やは知ってしまった。
坊やが知ってはいけなかったことを。

坊やの顔を見て、母親が悲鳴をあげた。
驚いて、坊やは走って逃げた。

鬼の面をはずすと、鏡の前に立った。
夕陽が坊やの顔を赤く照らす。

坊やの顔は鬼になっていた。

Demon Mask

There was a cute boy in a big house.
