間違えた単語を使うと
当然ながら相手は
 
「What do you mean ?」
「What did you say ?」
「I can't get you .」
・
・
というように
「わからない、通じない」反応を
返してきます。
 
そのときは
「Well,」
「Let me see .」
などと言いながら
心を落ち着かせてください。
 
自分が今言った
「通じなかった英語」の中で
「たぶんここがダメだったのでは」
というところはわかります。
 
その単語をもういちど引っ張りだしてみましょう。
こんな感じでいいでしょう。
 
１．This handle cover is nice .
たぶん handle cover がダメだったのだろう。
そこで handle cover を引っ張り出します。

Not handle cover ?
What should I say ?
 
２．Do you have a sharp pencil ?
 
たぶん sharp pencil がダメだったのだろう。
そこで sharp pencil を引っ張り出します。
 
Sharp pencil ?
Not sharp pencil ?
What do you say this ?
 
３．How many customers do we have ?
 
たぶん customers がダメだったのだろう。
そこで customers を引っ張り出します。
 
Customers ?
Not customers ?
What's the word ?
 
このようにすると
相手はズバリの単語を言ってくれます。
その単語を２，３回繰り返してみます。
 
そしてもう一度その単語を使って
言い直せばＯＫです。
 
１．This steering wheel is nice .
 
２．Do you have a mechanical pencil .
 
３．How many visitors do we have ?

 これで何事もなかったかのように
会話は続きます。

 今日もカンカン照り
仲良し兄弟兄妹です。
帽子もタオルもドリンクも持っていません。
せめて日陰を見つけて歩くかそこで休むか
しないとまずいですよ。
 
兄：Ｂ　妹：Ｓ
B: What is the temperature now ?
S: I don't know , but maybe around 35 ℃ .
B: We should have followed Mother's advice .
S: Yes , we should . She told us to take hats , towels , and cold drinks with us .
B: Yeah , but it was cloudy and a little cool .
I was too easy going .
S: We have to have something cold to drink .
How much have you got now ?
B: 300yen .
S: I have 500 yen . Finding a vending machine , we'll have some drinks .
B: That's a good idea . But why do you have more money than I do ?
S: Because you always waste your money away .
B: Well・・・・・・・
 
出かける前は曇っていて少し涼しかった
ということです。
お母さんのアドバイスを聞けばよかったといっても
後の祭りです。
どうも兄ちゃんは頼りない感じですね。
