日本はなぜダメなのか？欧州最高の“知の巨人”ジャック・アタリ氏が提言する「日本復活への3条件」

　ジャック・アタリ:それは、研究にもっとお金をかけることでしょう。そして、若者の創造性です。そして、最も大切なのは、異論を称えることです。大勢順応を称えるのではなく、異論を称え、前例のないことに挑戦することを称えるのです。 　グローバルな軍隊の一員ではないことを、「自分らしくありたいこと」を、称えるのです。スタートアップ企業やデジタルの成功は、ルールに従って行動しなければならない、と信じていない人たちによってもたらされています。　

　つまり、彼ら彼女らは、「ルールを破らなければならないこと」を理解し始めています。ここにはおそらく、日本社会の文化的要素があるのかもしれません。日本社会が基づいているのは、ルールに反したら称賛されるのではなく、ルールに従って振る舞うということですから。　　　　　　　　　ジャック・アタリ :経済学者／思想家

　過去30年間、日本の国際的な地位が凋落の一途をたどっている。そして、その原因を多くの学者が「学校」にあると考えている。日本の学校は

「先生の言うことをよく聞いて、いい子でね」

　から、始まる。

　しかし、本当に教師の言うことは正しいのだろうか。

 　日本の学校の特徴は「和を以て貴しとなす」にある。とにかく、異論を言わずに周囲の空気を読んで同調する。日本の文化、伝統にある“同調圧力”の力は抵抗が難しいほど強い。

 　しかし、ビジネスでは多数派の言うことに耳を傾けると倒産に至るだけだ。差別化と言うのは「他人と違うことをする」ことだからだ。日本の学校は「他人と同じことをしろ」というところから始まる。服装、髪型、授業、使用する問題集から部活まで強制ばかりだ。

 　ところが、私の教えていたアメリカのローガン中学校の指導方針は日本の学校と真逆なのだ。「とにかく、他人と違うやり方でやってみよう！」だった。そんな学校からしかビル・ゲイツやスティーブ・ジョブズは生まれてこない。

　But, really, what the teacher says is right.

　But is what the teacher says really true?

　The characteristic of Japanese schools is "harmony is the key to success. In any case, they read the atmosphere around them and agree with it, without saying a word of disagreement. The power of "peer pressure" in Japanese culture and tradition is so strong that it is difficult to resist.

　However, in business, listening to the majority will only lead to bankruptcy. Differentiation is about doing something different from others. Japanese schools start by telling students to do what others do. Everything is compulsory, from clothing, hair styles, classes, problem books to club activities.

　However, at Logan Junior High School in the U.S., where I taught, the teaching policy was the exact opposite of that of Japanese schools. Just try something different! That was the policy of Logan Junior High School in the U.S. Only from such schools could Bill Gates and Steve Jobs be born.
