10 students were accepted to Kyoto University School of Medicine, Osaka University School of Medicine, and Nagoya University School of Medicine

Kyoto University School of Medicine 4 students (2022, 2016, 2014, 2013)
Osaka University School of Medicine 4 students (2023-3, 2014)
Nagoya University School of Medicine 2 students (2018, 2013)

Kyoto University, Osaka University, and Nagoya University all have about 100 students in their medical schools. I don't think all of these 100 students use prep schools or cram schools. Many of them probably use private tutors or correspondence courses such as Z-kai. Here in northern Mie Prefecture, there are no Kawaijuku or Sundai schools within easy commuting distance.

Therefore, I myself am surprised that 10 students have been admitted to Kyoto University, Osaka University, and Nagoya University's medical schools. But I don't think this is a coincidence. I have been working at seven famous prep schools and cram schools in Nagoya for 14 years, and I have only once met a teacher who graduated from Kyoto University or a teacher who passed the first level of the English proficiency test.

Of course, the lecturer who graduated from Kyoto University did not graduate from the medical department. The average score of students who pass the entrance exam of Kyoto University is about 70% (although it varies depending on the year and the department), and I don't think he can teach students who aim for 80% in medical school.

I did the Zukai's "Kyoto University Sokai" for 8 years, took the "Kyoto University Mock Exam" of Kawai and Sundai 10 times, studied the scoring of the answers, and actually took Kyoto University 7 times to study the scoring method. What I found out is that the scoring standards for the mock examinations at prep schools are very different from those for the real examinations.

The reason for this is due to the difference in the scoring teachers. I have seen a catchphrase from a prep school that says, "70% of students who take the Kyoto University entrance exam take this test. Kyoto University has about 3,000 students who take the exam, so 70% means more than 2,000 students. Therefore, the grading cannot be done by instructors, and part-time student graders are needed in order to return the scores within a month.

In fact, prep schools are looking for part-time students to grade mock exams.

It is only natural that the grading standards of a part-time student grader who grades Japanese translations and English compositions based on the "grading standards" are much different from those of a professor at Kyoto University. Mock examinations are "educational tests," so it is necessary to clearly indicate to students where points will be deducted. However, the entrance exam is a "selection test," so there is no need to indicate the areas where points will be deducted (in fact, they do not disclose the graded answers).

The majority of part-time students and English instructors are people who learned English at school. However, professors at Kyoto University write papers in English as their main job. They also attend international conferences. Therefore, they are only interested in the English currently in circulation.

The results of our survey are as follows.

In 2006 and 2008 (Faculty of Letters), the average percentage of correct answers was 66% (English for entrance examinations).
2009, 2010 (Faculty of Education) Average of 76% correct (English for certification)
2012, 2013 (Comprehensive Humanities) Average of 79% (Native English)

I graduated from Nagoya University with a degree in Education, and I know the English for entrance examinations that is taught at prep schools and cram schools.
He has also passed the English Proficiency Test, the National Examination for Interpreter Guides, the United Nations English Proficiency Test Level A, Business English Proficiency Test Level A, and Tourism English Proficiency Test Level 1, and knows "Qualified English" to teach at ECC and English conversation schools.
He also knows "Native English" as he taught English at a public junior high school in Utah, U.S.A. Recently, TEIC is used to evaluate English proficiency. In our experience, the evaluation is as follows.

TOEIC over 800 < Zukai "Rokudan Certificate" < Kyoto University Mock Exam "A" < Eiken Level 1 < Kyoto University Secondary School over 80%.

The maximum and minimum scores for the Kyoto University School of Medicine are publicly announced, but for the 2022 academic year, the highest score is 90% and the lowest is 73%. The highest score is 1125 and the lowest is 916. 100 applicants are within the range of 209 points, so in reality, one or two points can literally make the difference between acceptance or rejection.

In such a tough competition, there is no way I would rely on "Yahoo Chiebukuro" to correct my English composition. I don't think anyone who got more than 80% in Japanese translation and English composition at Kyoto University's second screening would be answering or correcting the questions.

The 10 students who passed the exam for Kyoto Medical School, Osaka Medical School, and Nagoya Medical School were more likely to get a C on the "Kyoto University Mock Exam" in the summer. When I asked to see the results of those who passed the exam, I found that some of them had passed by only two points. If you fail the exam and have to go to a prep school as a ronin, you will have to spend about 1,000,000 yen a year. It is natural that they are serious about it.

A report from a student who passed the exam (1)
Thanks to you, I passed the medical course at Kyoto University! Your English ability is really wonderful, as you have stayed in the U.S. I was very impressed by his English ability when he posted the results of his 80%+ score on SNS.
His English teaching was easy to understand and effective. Thanks to you, I enjoy studying English. I am very grateful to you. Thank you very much!
