ホンマにアホやなぁ！（１０）

　

  資格英語は、英検やＴＯＥＩＣなどのことを指す。こちらは、塾や予備校とは別系統のＥＣＣなどの英会話教室で指導が行われている。ネイティブが指導することも多いし、ＬＬや音声教材を使用することが多い。

　

　そして、最後がネイティブの英語だ。私は英検１級や通訳ガイドの国家試験の勉強の途中でネイティブと話すことが多かった。彼らに英検などの問題を見せるといつも

「なんだ、これは。なんで日本人のおまえがこんな問題をやらねばならぬのか」

　と尋ねられた。アメリカに住んだことがあるので、彼らの疑問はよく分かる。実用英語検定という名前だが、現在使用されている英語とは異なっている。

　

そこで、

「では、京都大学の入学試験の英作文ではどのタイプの英語が評価されるのか」

　これが、この考察の問題意識だ。

  Qualified English refers to the English Proficiency Test and TOEIC. These are taught at English conversation schools such as ECC, which are in a different lineage from cram schools and prep schools. It is often taught by native speakers and often uses LL and audio materials.

　

　And last but not least, native English. I often spoke with native speakers during the course of studying for the Eiken Level 1 and the National Examination for Interpreter Guides. Whenever I showed them a question from the Eiken or other tests, they would always say

They would always say, "What's this? Why do you, a Japanese, have to do these problems?

　I had lived in the U.S., so I was able to answer their questions. Having lived in the U.S., I understand their questions. Although it is called the Practical English Proficiency Test, it is different from the English used today.

　

So, I said to them

"Then, which type of English will be evaluated in the English composition section of Kyoto University's entrance examination?"

　This is the question that this study is concerned with.
