〇「とめ、はね、はらい」はどうでもよい

●高校入試で厳しく見ない

　書き順も、原則だけで細部に根拠がないのと同じで、「とめ・はね・はらい」にこだわることは全く意味がありません。書道など、一部の「美的」要素が求められる際に、意味をもつだけでしょう。私は高校教員で入試の採点もしますが、「とめ・はね・はらい」はほぼ無視です。「門構え」を略式で書いたりするようなものはバツにしますが、結論を言えば、そんなに厳しく見ていません。（東京都 60代男性）

　私は長年「受験指導」をさせてもらっていますが、同僚の講師間でも意見が異なります。なぜかというと、保護者の意識がバラバラだからです。「とめ、はね、はらい」を気にする講師は保護者の批判に敏感です。私は、悪筆の生徒でも合格していくので気にしていません。

●日本嫌いにしないため

　日本語学校で外国人に漢字を教えている。中国人以外は絵を描いているに等しい。中国人にしても簡体字と日本語の漢字とが微妙に違うので、結構苦労している。学習者に正確に書くことを要求すると、漢字嫌い、日本語嫌い、日本文化嫌いを増やし、日本という国に対する嫌悪感にすらつながると思う。漢字ないしは漢語の意味が理解できて、ワープロが提示してくる候補漢字から正しいものが選べれば、日本で生活していける。（東京都 60代男性）

　大学でも社会でも課題や論文は全てＰＣでプリントアウトをする時代です。「変換」を押すだけで済みます。「とめ、はね、はらい」など若者にとっては「どーでもいいこと！」なんです。

● Not looking strictly at the high school entrance exam.

　In the same way that the stroke order is based only on principles and not on details, it makes no sense to insist on "tome, hane, harai" at all. It is only meaningful when some "aesthetic" elements are required, such as in calligraphy. I am a high school teacher and grade entrance exams, but I almost always ignore "tome, hane, harai. I give a "×" to those who write "katakana" in an abbreviated form, but to sum up, I don't look at them that strictly. (Tokyo, 60s male)

　I have been "teaching examinations" for many years, and opinions differ even among my fellow instructors. The reason for this is that the parents' awareness is different. The instructors who are concerned about "tome, hane, harai" are sensitive to criticism from parents. I do not care about it because even students with bad handwriting pass the exam.

●To avoid making them hate Japan

　I teach kanji to foreigners at a Japanese language school. For non-Chinese, it is equivalent to drawing pictures. Even for Chinese students, they have quite a hard time because simplified Chinese characters are slightly different from Japanese kanji. I believe that requiring students to write correctly will increase their dislike of kanji, Japanese language, and Japanese culture, and even lead to a dislike of the country of Japan. If you can understand the meaning of kanji or Chinese words and can choose the correct one from the candidate kanji provided by the word processor, you can live in Japan. (Male, 60s, Tokyo)

　We live in an age where all assignments and papers, both at university and in society, are printed out on a PC. All you have to do is press "convert. For young people, "tome, hane, harai" etc. are "nothing to worry about! It's just a matter of time.
