青山学院大学の社会人向け公開講座のこと

電車に数分間乗って行ける範囲に青山学院大学がある。社会人向けの公開講座があるというので、行ってみたことがある。

大学の中を歩いてみるのが主な目的で、講座の内容にはそれほど期待していなかった。費用も確か２千円程度だった。色々な分野の数人の講師が交代して話す形式で、一つは面白い内容のものがあった。もう１０年前のことなので、具体的には覚えていないが、少なくともその時は退屈しなかった。

しかし、数年前に書いた数学の論文の内容を説明する講師がいた。聴衆の一人が、その論文は公開されているのか（あるいは査読がすんでいるのかだったかもしれない）と聞くと、まだだと言う。聞いている人はほとんど男性だったが、それを聞いた一人が憤然と退出した。主催者は、公開講座なら、そんな講師でも十分だと思っていたのだろう。

見くびられたものである。

東京都立大学のように、社会人向けの講座の受講者が図書館を利用できるサービスがあればよかったのだが、この大学にはなかった。キャンパスはきれいだったが、もう行くことはないだろう。

Aoyama Gakuin University's course for working adults

Aoyama Gakuin University is within reach by train. There is an extension course for working people, so I have attended it.

My main purpose was to walk around the university, and I didn't expect much from the content of the course. The cost was certainly about 2,000 yen. Several instructors in various fields took turns speaking, one of which was interesting. It was 10 years ago, so I don't remember exactly, but at least I wasn't bored at that time.

However, there was a lecturer who explained the contents of a math dissertation he wrote a few years ago. When one of the audience asks if the paper has been published (or may have been peer-reviewed), he says it hasn't. Most of the listeners were men, and one who heard it left indignantly. The organizer would have thought that such an instructor would be sufficient for an extension course.

That is, we had been underestimated.

It would have been nice if there was a service like Tokyo Metropolitan University where students of courses for working adults could use the library, but this university did not. The campus was clean, but I wouldn't go there anymore.
