1)歓迎と感謝のことば
Good Morning and Welcome!
Thank you Dawn Phipps and team for allowing us to use this beautiful facility in FOCAL.
Thank you, Mr. K, Tomo, and Anna for honoring us as our guests and for traveling such a far distance to visit us.
A special thank you to Bob Carnaroli and North and the color guard and band for giving us a great start to this event,
thank you Karl Mercer at Alliance and Tracey Winkler at Central and to your students and teams to opening your doors of your awesome schools yesterday and allowing my team and our visitors from Risshodai Shonan school to learn from you and your teachers and students and see all of the great things you are doing.
Thank you to all of the high school and middle school principals for allowing your schools to participate today and thank you esports coaches, and most importantly students and visitors, thank you for being here today.
2)松江の立正大淞南を訪問
In June, Mr. K and the prestigious Risshodai Shonan school in Matsue, Japan invited me and PK and Ayumi to visit their school and wanted us at ACE/FVA to become a sister school with them. I also brought my son, Ty, a student at North Forsyth Middle along with me on the trip.
They invited us because they had visited and seen what we were doing with esports and virtual education and they wanted us to partner with them to learn from each other and find ways to better serve our students so that our students would grow and better serve our communities and the world.
They have a wonderful school in Matsue. We were welcomed with open arms to a grand event that celebrated their esports team and our visit.
3)日本の良いところ
When I was in Japan, I was struck by how humble, how generous, how hardworking, and how kind the people were. I was struck by the beauty of the country, how clean it was, how organized and efficient everything was, the innovative use of technology, and how healthy and delicious the food was.
It was a learning and a growing experience for me. It inspired me to do better things here in Forsyth and to always remember that we are a small part of large and wondrous and amazing world!
4)他者と繋がるために
While visiting Risshodai Shonan, I was asked to say a few words about esports. Here is what I said:
"Why do we play Games? Video games are obviously a part of that?
We play games so that we can come together and connect with one another. We do play games to have fun. We play games to challenge ourselves. To struggle. And to overcome. We play games to challenge each other. We play to win and to celebrate. The point of playing games is to bring out the best in ourselves and to bring out the best in one another."
5)SHIMENAWA
"When I was in Japan near Matsue, there is a 1300 year old shrine called IZUMO TAISHA. In front of the shrine hangs a giant rope- it literally weighs thousands of pounds hanging at the entrance. The rope is called a SHIMENAWA. The rope symbolizes the boundary between the spirit world and our physical world and the rope binds all people together. Let us let games and esports be the SHIMENAWA that binds and connects us as people and schools and communities and nations together.
SAFE. CONNECTED. THRIVING."
LET’S PLAY!
