愛と成長： 植物と暮らす。| Love and Growth: Living with Plants

　Have you noticed the flora around your enjoying the rainy season? One of the perks of being a plant owner is watching your plants come alive during this season. It has a knock-on effect on dopamine leaves in their owners. Don't you want to experience the joys of house plant ownership? It's a back-and-forth relationship that can last a lifetime!

　梅雨の曇りの日、ベランダの窓の掃除をして、デッキをブラッシングした。それから、霧吹きで葉に水を吹きつけようと思い、140cmあるポリシャス・フルテコーサをベランダに出した。たまにはこうして外の空気に直接触れさせることは、植物を元気にする。ギザギザとした葉が、とてもうれしそうに笑っているようだった。

　On a cloudy day during the rainy season, I cleaned my balcony window with a squeegee and brushed the deck. Then, I brought out a 140cm tall Polyscias fruticose plant to the balcony to spray water on its leaves using a mister. Occasionally, letting the plants come into direct contact with the outside air can invigorate them. The jagged leaves seemed to be happily smiling.

　それに、最近見つけた「植物の宇宙食」というキャッチコピーの「土母」という活力剤が効いているようで、葉が落ちて、みすぼらしくなっていたところからも、新しい細い枝が一斉に伸び始めているのは、とてもうれしい結果だ。　

　And the vitality tonic called "Doymo(Soil Mother)," with the slogan "Space Food for Plants" appears to be working, and new, thin branches are beginning to grow all at once, even where the leaves had fallen and looked shabby, a very happy result.

　次に、2mくらいまで成長したアルテシマの入った鉢を、慎重にベランダの方へ。余りにも背が高いので、窓の扉までで断念して、そこで葉水をすることにした。アルテシマは、１枚１枚の葉が大きいので、１枚１枚葉水をしていると、なんと、大きい葉の下に、新しい葉が４枚もついていることが分かった！　電子ピアノの前に置いてあるが、葉が大きくて、全く見えていなかったのだ。

　Next, I carefully moved the pot containing Altissima, which had grown to about 2 meters, to the balcony. Since it was too tall, I gave up after reaching the window door and decided to water the leaves there. Artessima has large leaves, so I sprayed each leaf one by one and found that there were four new leaves under the large one!　They are in front of the electric piano, but the leaves were so big that I couldn't see them at all.

　このアルテシマが家にやってきたのは、2007年6月のこと。今の家に住み始めて3か月したころ、アフタヌーンティーというインテリアショップで買ったものだ。そのころは、アイビーがあったくらいだから、はじめてインテリアとしての観葉植物の購入となった。しかしこの頃は、それから16年も一緒に暮らすなんて、想像すらしていなかっただろう。

　This Altissima came to my house in June 2007. I bought it at an interior design store called Afternoon Tea about three months after I moved into my current house. At that time, there was only an Ivy, so this was my first houseplant purchase for interior decoration. At that time, however, I would never have imagined that I would live with it for the next 16 years. 

　16年間も同じ植物と一緒に暮らすと、本当にいろいろなことが起きるものだ。ブログを時系列で振り返ってみた。

　When living with the same plant for 16 years, so many things really happen. I looked back at my blog in chronological order.

◎Biginning
2007.6： アルテシマを購入し、ベランダで育て始める。
2007.6：Bought Altissima and started growing it on my balcony.

◎事変
2013.2： 春一番の突風で鉢が倒れて、新芽の部分が潰れてしまう。
2013.6：剪定を決意する。
2013.7：剪定した場所から、新しい葉が生える。
2014.9：葉が黄色くなったことがきっかけで、メインの木を残しながら、挿し木にもトライする。
2014.11：挿し木から新しい葉が生える。
その後、挿し木は失敗に終わる。

◎Incident
2013.2：A gust of wind at the beginning of spring causes the pot to fall over and the new shoots are crushed.
2013.6：Decide to prune it.
2013.7：New leaves grow from the pruned area.
2014.9：The leaves turn yellow, so I try cuttings while keeping the main tree.
2014.11：New leaves grow from the cuttings.
Later, the cuttings are unsuccessful.
◎再生
2016.5：本体のアルテシマからは、毎年新葉が生えてくる。
2017.3：アルテシマの鉢が割れる夢を見る。
2017.5：本体から新しい葉が生えなくなったので、本体は捨て、また挿し木にトライする。
2017.6：挿し木から新しい葉が生えてくる。
2018.4：挿し木の中の1本が無事に成長し、室内で育てることにする。

◎Reborn
2016.5：New leaves grow every year from the main tree Altissima.
2017.3：I dream that the pot of Altissima breaks.
2017.5：No new leaves grow from the body, so I throw away the body and try cuttings again.
2017.6：New leaves grow from the cuttings.
2018.4：One of the cuttings grows successfully and decides to grow it indoors.

◎安定期
2020.7：140cmの高さまで伸びる。
2023.3：2メートルまで伸びて、不安定になってきたので、ドイツ製の底面給水鉢に変える、
2023.6：先端以外の成長点から、新葉が出てきて驚く。

◎Stable stage
2020.7：Grows to 140 cm high.
2023.3：It grew to 2 meters and became unstable, so I changed it to a German-made bottom-watering pot,
2023.6：New leaves are coming out from all growing points except the tip, which is surprising.

　アルテシマ以外にも、部屋に10鉢あり、それぞれに成長物語がある。1鉢の観葉植物に一喜一憂している場合ではない。習慣も同時並行することが、シンフォニーを生むように、植物も複数同時に育てることで、植物とのコミュニケーション力は格段にアップし、ロングライフを可能にする。

　Aside from Altissima, there are 10 other plants in my room, each with its own growth story. There's no time to be happy or sad about one particular houseplant, overly concerned with just one potted plant. Just as habits can coexist and create a symphony, nurturing multiple plants simultaneously significantly enhances communication with them and allows for long-term growth.

　2014年、主木を捨て、挿し木の可能性を探るという大胆な行動に出たことで、思いもよらない未来が見えてきた。アルテシマという植物に見守られながら生活することになるとは、誰が想像できただろうか？

Taking a leap of faith in 2014 by discarding the main tree and exploring the possibilities of cuttings has led to an unforeseen future. Who could have imagined that I would now find myself beneath the watchful gaze of Altissima, a plant that has become an integral part of my life?

　植物との暮らしは、忍耐力、回復力、そして成長の美しさを教えてくれる。それは、あなたの中にある「愛」が引き出されるプロセスでもある。この旅を続けながら、私はこの経験と自然との深いつながりに感謝する。この植物にまつわる物語が、私たちの周りの生き物を育て、大切にすることで広がる素晴らしさを教えてくれますように。

　Living with plants teaches us patience, resilience, and the beauty of growth. It is also a process that brings forth the "love" within you. As I continue this journey, I am grateful for the experiences and the profound connection I've developed with nature. May the story of my plants serve as a reminder of the wonders that unfold when we cultivate and care for the living world around us.

「アルテシマ 英語」と検索をしたら、いまごろアルテシマのラテン語の意味を知りました。
アルテシマ（altissima）、ラテン語で『最も背が高い』や『セイタカ（背高）』という意味で、原産地では30m近くにもなるそうです。
どおりで、部屋で育てても2メーター超えるわけだ！(笑)
