午後7時、生放送中のラジオ番組に掛かってきた1本の電話。「爆弾を仕掛けた」という男に、いたずらだと軽くあしらうのはラジオパーソナリティで、元人気キャスターの折本眞之輔（阿部寛）。直後に発電所で爆破事件が起こると事態は急変、その男は交渉人として折本を指名してきたのだ。思わぬ形で特大スクープを手に入れ、降板させられた国民的ニュース番組「ショウタイム7」復帰へ千載一遇のチャンスが舞い降りてきた折本は、すぐさま、TV局プロデューサーの東海林（吉田鋼太郎）へ話を持ち掛ける。
