Haruki Murakami himself reportedly commented, ``I wish I had had an album like this in my adolescence,'' and even Radiohead's Thom Yorke is a Haruki Murakami fan. In an interview at the time of the release of ``Theif'' (2003), Thom Yorke commented that reading ``The Wind-up Bird Chronicle'' during production helped clear his mind on ideas for his new work. I think I'll read "Kafka on the Shore."

「そういえば『KID A』は、村上春樹の『海辺のカフカ』の主人公の少年が聴いた作品として登場してるらしい。村上春樹自身、「こんなアルバムが自分の思春期にあればよかった」とコメントしたそうだが、Radiohead側も、トム・ヨークが村上春樹愛読者だったりする。Radioheadの6th『Hail to the theif』発売時（2003年）のインタビューで、製作中に『ねじまき鳥クロニクル』を読んで、自身の新作と重なる思想を見出し頭がスッキリしたとコメントしたトム・ヨーク。両思いである。」
