この11分の短編は、実際の歴史とは異なる歴史の第一次世界大戦が舞台となっており、敵対する2人の兵士が、勇敢な伝書鳩を介してチェスゲームに興じています。戦闘がエスカレートするにつれ、ゲームもエスカレート。白熱した戦いの中でのサバイバル、仲間意識、美の物語は深い感動を与えてくれるものだという。本作は今年のアカデミー賞ノミネートを争う短編アニメのひとつで、アニー賞にもノミネートされたばかり。
This 11-minute short story is set in an alternate history of World War I, in which two opposing soldiers engage in a game of chess via an intrepid homing pigeon. At first the game escalates. The story of survival, camaraderie, and beauty in the heat of battle is deeply moving. This work is one of the short animations competing for Academy Award nominations this year, and has just been nominated for an Annie Award.

I know it sounds very naive, but I'm saying that I really believe in solving problems peacefully as a concept. That's what I was raised to believe and I still believe."
また、短編アニメーション賞は「War is Over！ Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko」が受賞しました。この作品はジョン・レノンとオノ・ヨーコの音楽に着想を得ており、製作にも関わったショーン・レノンが授賞式に出席しました。

1969年12月15日、レノンとオノはロンドンで行われたユニセフ主催の『ピース・フォー・クリスマス』コンサートに出演した[注釈 2]。また同時にニューヨークのタイムズスクエアなど世界11都市[注釈 3]で一斉に「WAR IS OVER！ IF YOU WANT IT Happy Christmas From John & Yoko 」とクリスマス・メッセージが書かれた看板を設置するとともに、ポスターを貼り出したり新聞広告を出したりなどの平和キャンペーンを行った[7]。これらは、当時アメリカが関与していたベトナム戦争に対する抗議でもあった[注釈 4]。
On December 15, 1969, Lennon and Ono performed at the UNICEF Peace for Christmas concert in London. In addition to setting up signs with the Christmas message ``You Want It: Happy Christmas from John & Yoko,'' they also carried out a peace campaign by pasting up posters and placing advertisements in newspapers. He once reflected on the Vietnam War.
