Waiting for Christmas: A Halloween Adventure"

Tommy couldn't wait for Christmas.
トミーはクリスマスが待ちきれなかった。

It was still October, and Halloween was just around the corner, but all he could think about was Christmas trees, presents, and Santa Claus.
まだ10月で、ハロウィンがすぐそこまで来ているというのに、彼の頭の中はクリスマスツリーやプレゼント、サンタクロースのことでいっぱいだった。

“Why does Christmas have to be so far away?” Tommy groaned, lying on his bed.
「どうしてクリスマスはこんなに遠いんだろう？」トミーはベッドに寝転びながらぼやいた。

His little sister, Lily, was busy carving a pumpkin at the kitchen table.
妹のリリーは台所のテーブルでかぼちゃを彫るのに夢中だった。

“Tommy, it's Halloween! You should be excited!” she said, looking up from her pumpkin.
「トミー、ハロウィンだよ！ワクワクしなきゃ！」とかぼちゃから顔を上げて言った。

“But I want it to be Christmas already,” Tommy pouted.
「でも、もうクリスマスになってほしいんだよ」とトミーはふくれっ面をした。

Lily giggled. “Come on, Halloween is fun too! We get to dress up and go trick-or-treating!”
リリーはクスクス笑った。「ほら、ハロウィンも楽しいじゃない！仮装してトリック・オア・トリートしに行くんだよ！」

Tommy sighed. “Yeah, but Christmas has presents.”
トミーはため息をついた。「でも、クリスマスにはプレゼントがあるんだもん。」

Lily thought for a moment and then smiled. “I know! Why don’t we combine them?”
リリーは少し考えてから微笑んだ。「わかった！両方合わせちゃおうよ！」

“Combine Halloween and Christmas?” Tommy raised an eyebrow. “How?”
「ハロウィンとクリスマスを合わせるって？」トミーは眉を上げた。「どうやって？」

“We can decorate the house with spooky Christmas lights and dress up as Christmas monsters!” Lily suggested, her eyes sparkling.
「家を怖いクリスマスライトで飾って、クリスマスのモンスターの仮装をするの！」とリリーは目を輝かせながら提案した。

Tommy sat up. “Christmas monsters? That sounds... awesome!”
トミーは体を起こした。「クリスマスのモンスター？それ、めっちゃいいじゃん！」

They spent the rest of the afternoon planning.
二人はその日の午後を全部、その計画を立てるのに使った。

Tommy decided to dress up as a “Santa Zombie,” while Lily chose to be a “Snowman Witch.”
トミーは「ゾンビサンタ」の仮装をすることに決め、リリーは「雪だるま魔女」になることにした。

They hung red and green lights around the house, but instead of stars, they used little ghosts and bats.
家の周りに赤と緑のライトを飾ったが、星の代わりに小さなゴーストやコウモリを吊るした。

“This is actually kind of fun,” Tommy admitted, smiling.
「これ、意外と楽しいかも」とトミーは笑いながら認めた。

Lily grinned. “See? Now we don’t have to wait for Christmas!”
リリーはにっこり笑った。「でしょ？これでクリスマスを待たなくてもいいんだよ！」

That night, they went trick-or-treating in their Christmas-themed costumes, making everyone laugh and compliment their creativity.
その夜、二人はクリスマスをテーマにした仮装でトリック・オア・トリートに出かけ、みんなを笑わせたり、創造力を褒められたりした。

When they got home, Tommy was happy.
家に帰ったとき、トミーは満足そうだった。

“You know, Lily, I think this was the best Halloween ever,” he said, hugging his bag of candy.
「ねぇ、リリー、これまでで一番楽しいハロウィンだったかも」と言って、キャンディの入った袋を抱きしめた。

“And now we just have to wait for Christmas,” Lily winked.
「さあ、あとはクリスマスを待つだけだね」とリリーはウィンクした。

Tommy grinned. “I guess waiting isn’t so bad after all.”
トミーはにやりと笑った。「待つのもそんなに悪くないかもね。」

They both laughed as they sat by the pumpkin, dreaming of both ghosts and snowflakes.
二人はかぼちゃのそばに座りながら、ゴーストと雪の結晶を夢見て笑った。
