The Reindeer Who Loved Halloween

It was the night before Halloween, and Rudy the reindeer was excited.
ハロウィンの前夜、トナカイのルディはワクワクしていました。

"I can't wait for tomorrow!" Rudy said, bouncing on his hooves.
「明日が待ちきれないよ！」と、ルディは蹄（ひづめ）で跳ねながら言いました。

His friend, Oliver the owl, was perched on a nearby tree.
友達のフクロウ、オリバーは近くの木にとまっていました。

"What's the big deal about Halloween?" Oliver asked, tilting his head.
「ハロウィンってそんなに大事なこと？」と、オリバーは首をかしげながら尋ねました。

Rudy's eyes sparkled. "It’s the best! You get to wear costumes, and there’s candy everywhere!"
ルディの目はキラキラしていました。「最高だよ！ 仮装できるし、あちこちにお菓子があるんだ！」

Oliver chuckled softly. "But you're a reindeer. Don’t you prefer Christmas?"
オリバーは静かに笑いました。「でも君はトナカイだよ。クリスマスの方が好きじゃないの？」

"Of course, I love Christmas," Rudy said, nodding. "But Halloween is fun too! It’s different!"
「もちろん、クリスマスも大好きさ」とルディはうなずきました。「でも、ハロウィンも楽しいよ！ なんか違うんだ！」

Oliver thought for a moment. "Okay, so what’s your costume this year?"
オリバーは少し考えました。「で、今年の仮装は何にするの？」

Rudy grinned proudly. "I'm going to be a vampire!"
ルディは誇らしげに笑いました。「ヴァンパイアになるんだ！」

"A vampire reindeer?" Oliver hooted in surprise. "That’s... creative!"
「ヴァンパイアのトナカイ？」と、オリバーは驚いて声をあげました。「それは...創造的だね！」

"Yup! I even made my own cape!" Rudy said, showing off a red fabric he had stitched together.
「そうさ！ 自分でマントも作ったんだ！」と、ルディは自分が縫い合わせた赤い布を見せながら言いました。

Oliver flapped his wings in approval. "Not bad, Rudy! You might just scare some kids!"
オリバーは翼をバタバタさせて感心しました。「悪くないね、ルディ！子どもたちを驚かせるかも！」

Rudy giggled. "That’s the plan!"
ルディはクスクス笑いました。「それが狙いさ！」

As the night sky grew darker, Rudy looked up at the stars.
夜空が暗くなるにつれ、ルディは星を見上げました。

"I hope tomorrow will be perfect," he whispered.
「明日が完璧な一日になるといいな」と彼はそっとつぶやきました。

Oliver hooted softly. "I’m sure it will be."
オリバーは優しく声をあげました。「きっとそうなるさ。」

And with that, Rudy headed back to his cozy den, dreaming of candy and costumes.
そして、ルディはお菓子と仮装を夢見ながら、心地よい巣穴へと帰っていきました。

Tomorrow was going to be the best Halloween ever.
明日は最高のハロウィンになるはずです。
