ギリシャ独立２００周年記念のストリート・エキジビション
アテネのザピオンとゼウス神殿の間を走るバシリシス・オルガス通りは二年ほど前から大部分が遊歩道となりました。人々はウォーキングやジョギングを楽しんでいます。その遊歩道にギリシャ独立２００周年を記念して、２１人の有識者と芸術家によるポスターが展示されています。展示ポスターの絵が印象的で、また有識者によるコメントにも心を打たれるようなものがあったので紹介いたします。
主催者の一人の言葉
ギリシャ人は自分たちの歴史を、良い歴史、悪い歴史、自分たちの歴史、多民族の歴史と区別しがちである。しかし、歴史というのは一つであり、傷も含めていろいろな側面がある。我々は歴史を恐れることなく、感情的にもならずに学び、語り合わなければならない。
ステファノス・カバリエラキス（アテネ博物館長）の言葉から
ギリシャがウィーン体制下で唯一革命を成功させた国であるということが歴史的に重要な意味をもち、隷属下にあった他の民族やバルカン半島でのオスマン帝国支配下の民族に多大な影響をあたえました。
フォティニ・チャリコグル（作家、大学教授）の言葉から
ギリシャ人が独立を求めて戦っている間、ヨーロッパの人々は自分たちすべてがギリシャ人であり、自分たちのルーツをギリシャに求めました。そしてバイロンは自分の命をギリシャ独立のために捧げました。
レナ・ディバニ（作家、大学教授）の言葉から
最も偉大な指導者はカポディストリアで、自分の欲望ではなく国家の欲望が優先されるべきだといいました。首相としての報酬を一切受け取らず、自分の命が危険にさらされるとわかっていても、ぶれずに改革を推し進めて行きました。二番目に偉大な指導者はハリラオス・トリクピスでギリシャの近代化に全力を注ぎました。その次がエレフテリオス・ベニゼロスで国民の顔色を見ることなく、国のためになることを行いました。コンスタンチノス・カラマンリスは清いビジョンと計画をもつ偉大な指導者でした。
最後に
苦難を超えての独立。当時の強国、英、仏、露に支援されたり、またある時は突き放されたりと色々ありました。今年の3月25日の独立記念日の式典にはイギリスからチャールズ皇太子が来賓として参加されました。「英国に翻弄されながらの独立だった。でも英国の力なしでは独立は果たせなかったんじゃないかな」とギリシャ人の夫、ジョージは式典に出席していたチャールズ皇太子を見ながら言っていたのが印象的でした。ギリシャ革命史はギリシャ人にとっての誇りであり、古代史よりももっと身近に感じられる歴史です。偉大な歴史、革命で活躍した偉大なリーダー達に恥じないように、ギリシャが希望ある未来へ発展していくことを望みます。(Written by Yuki)
Street Exhibition for 200th anniversary of Greek revolution
Bassilis Olgas Street, which runs between Zappeion and the Temple of Zeus in Athens, became mostly a promenade a year ago. Athenians enjoy walking and jogging there. There are 21 posters by 21 experts and artists displayed to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Greek independence on that promenade. I would like to introduce some of the posters and words which impressed me.
The words from one of the organiser of this event
Greeks tend to distinguish their history from good and bad and from their own and others. However, history is only one with various aspects including some scars. We must learn and talk about our history without fear and without passion.
The words from Stefonos Kabalierakis (Athens Museum Director)
Greece was the only country to succeed in the revolution under the Vienna regime. This fact has historical significance and gave a great impact on other enslaved nations and people of the Balkan Peninsula under the Ottoman-domination.

While the Greeks were fighting for independence, the Europeans sought their roots in Greece saying that they are all Greeks. British Byron dedicated his life to Greek independence.

The greatest leader was Kapodistoria, who said that national desires should be prioritized over one's own desires. He didn’t take any money as prime minister. Although he knew that his life would be jeopardised, he continued to push forward with the country's reform. The second greatest leader was Charilaos Trikoupis, who eagerly modernised the nation of Greece. Eleftherios Venizelos did what was good for the country without flirting with citizens and Konstantinos Kramanlis was a great leader with a clear vision and plans.
In the end
Independence was achieved with a lot of hardships. Britain, France and Russia were involved in the Greek revolution and sometimes supported Greece and sometimes not. We had a ceremony for Independence Day on March 25th, and Prince Charles from England attended the ceremony this year. My husband George told me that we couldn't accomplish independence without the power of Britain even though Britain sought their own interest most of the time while he was watching Prince Charles attending the ceremony. The Greeks are so proud of the Greek Revolution and this history is more familiar than Ancient Greek history. I hope that Greece will develop into a bright future so as not to be disappointed by the great Greek heroes. (Written by Yuki)
