[Kyo-Tango Area (Japan)] 12 Places to Visit!

I'd like to briefly introduce some of the recommended restaurants and spots that I learned about upon participating the "Mad Dog Tour in Kyotango (Japan)", organized by Mr. Hitoshi Kinoshita in June 2024.

Maps of 12 places to visit

*In the following, some of the linked information are only provided in Japanese. In such case, please use the web translation ;-)

1. raw [French cuisine]

The dishes made with local vegetables and wood-grilled steaks are superb.
With the sea right in front of you, it's a restaurant you'll want to visit again and again at different times of the day in different seasons.

Beautiful sunset!

2. Nawaya [Japanese cuisine]

This restaurant also serves fresh local vegetables and seafood.
Each dish was amaizing.

You can see the wood-fired oven in front at the center.

Official Website (only in Japanese):  https://www.nawaya-restaurant.com/

3. Wine & Coffee YOiNE

"YOiNE" is the wine wholesaler for Raw above. They
also provided the wine for the after-party held during the "Mad Dog Tour".
Unfortunately, I can't drink much alcohol, but the owner, Mr. Takuma Yura, was very friendly and I was glad to be able to talk to him.

4. TANGOYA BREWIER & PUBLIC HOUSE

A cafe and brewery located just a one-minute walk from Yosano Station.
There are always multiple types of beer available. Perfect place for beer lovers!

There is a menu of six different beers on the wall!

5. Amano-Hashidate [Beauty Spot]

Amano-hashidate is one of the Three Most Scenic Views of Japan.
(The other two are Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture and Miyajima in Hiroshima Prefecture.)
Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to visit here :-(

6. Iio-Jozo [Vinegar brewery]

Iio-Jozo has fans not only in Japan but all over the world.
This time, I was blessed with the opportunity to tour the brewery.
I will definitely be ordering online again!

Vinegar tanks

7. aceto [Italian cuisine]

This is an Italian restaurant that was opened and operated by a vinegar shop, Iio-Jozo, to revitalize the local Tango region.
During the "Mad Dog Tour", a hand-rolled sushi party using vinegar from Iio-Jozo was held here. It's a wonderful restaurant where you can have fun in a Japanese-style space.

8. KISSUIEN Stay & Food [Hotel]

We stayed at this hotel during the "Mad Dog Tour".
This hotel is perfect for using the "Nuka to yuge" that will be introduced next.

9. Nuka to Yuge [Ferment Bath&Sauna]

A hot spring facility where you can experience a Finnish sauna and a rice bran enzyme bath.
You may also enjoy "enzyme juice" at this site, which I loved so much!

10. Onojin Miso Soy sauce [shop]

A miso and soy sauce shop located very close to the hotel (KISSUIEN) (about a 3-minute walk). They also sell koji products.

11. Boulangerie TAKATA

I happened to come across this bakery while walking near the hotel (KISSUIEN).
(This shop is also about a 5-minute walk from the hotel.)
They have a lot of delicious looking breads, including bagels!
Unfortunately, I didn't have much room left in my stomach during the tour, but the only bagel - the orange bagel I bought was really delicious!
I was also surprised to see the variety of bagels available.

12. Konpira-san [Shrine]

This place is also within walking distance from the hotel.
The only guardian ”cat” statue in Japan is enshrined here.
It's a nice place to go for a walk.

Kyo-Tango area is  a little inconvenient to go from the Tokyo region, but I would definitely like to visit again :-)
