💬 Design Term：ファシリテーターとしてクレージー８のワークショップを進行してみよう。使える英語フレーズ。

プロダクト・デザイナーとして海外で企業を相手とするときはもちろん、社内でもたびたび英語でのでワークショップのファシリテーションを求められることがあります。

でも実際に会議でファシリテーションを行う際にはどのようなフレーズを知っているとよいのでしょうか?

今回ご紹介するのは、前回ご紹介した「クレージー８」のファシリテーションからシーン別に覚えておくと便利な英語のフレーズをいくつか紹介します。前回クレージー８についてご紹介しましたので、そちらもご参照ください。

ミーティングの導入

簡単な挨拶をして、新しく加わったメンバーがいたら自己紹介をしていただきます。スプリントが進むに連れて、顔馴染みになるのでミーティングの導入部分村どん短縮されていくかと思います。

アクテビティについて説明しましょう

初めてアクテビティに参加するメンバーがいる場合は、簡単にアクテビティの説明をします。

I’m gonna talk to you about a technique that we often use mainly in the design sprint process that we run but we use it a lot as well for brainstorming or just sketching.
主に実行するデザインスプリントプロセスでよく使用される手法について説明しますが、ブレーンストーミングやスケッチにもよく使用します。

It’s called the Crazy 8s if you read the Sprint book by Google Ventures there’s this component in there but we use it a lot for just general brainstorming sessions.
Google VenturesのSprintの本を読むと、クレージ８と呼ばれます。このコンポーネントはそこにありますが、一般的なブレーンストーミングセッションでよく使用されます。

The reason why we use it is that it is well structured. It gives a time limit to people and it forces us to create something under our subconscious mind so we think it’s very good at practice. It’s a little bit crazy because it’s called the Crazy 8s.

It’s actually a very simple process.

It’s a collaborative brainstorming session individually so everyone does their own sketching.

What you need is just a sharpie. You also need a couple of pieces of paper but you only need one for a set of the first sessions.
必要なのはシャーピーだけです。 また、数枚の紙が必要ですが、最初のセッションのセットに必要なのは1枚だけです。

The reason why it’s called the crazy 8s essentially is because you’re spending 8 minutes on this one piece of paper.
クレイジー8と呼ばれる理由は、基本的に、この1枚の紙に8分を費やしているためです。

One piece of A4 so what we’ll do is we’ll fold it three times.
A4をペパーを3回折ります。

Equal size. and once you’ve done this you pull it out and you’ve got eight segments to your A4.

In each of the segments, you’re gonna spend a minute of brainstorming time whether it’s sketching or whatever some people actually use this for copywriting as well or logo design and stuff like that but we in real life we use it heavily for layout sketches.

All right so I guess we’ll get into it.

We’d like you to come up with ideas of how we can engage our end-users to feel connected to others.
エンドユーザーに他のユーザーとのつながりを感じてもらう方法についてアイデアを出していただきたいと思います。

Let’s map out some sketches around community engagement ideas.
コミュニティエンゲージメントのアイデアに関するスケッチをいくつか描きましょう。

In the Kickoff meeting, Andy mentioned upvoting articles and is keen to find some better ways to share ideas or contact.
キックオフミーティングで、アンディ(クライアント)は賛成の記事に言及し、アイデアを共有したり連絡したりするためのより良い方法を見つけたいと言っていました。

This is block number 1 and we will spend one minute on this.

This is actually for you to brainstorm it’s not for you to present so as long as you understand what you’re doing and you understand what the elements are that’s all that matters.
これは実際にブレインストーミングを行うためのものであり、あなたが何をしているかを理解し、重要な要素が何であるかを理解していれば問題ありません。プレゼンするためのものではないことを覚えていてください。

You don’t have to overthink it because that’s not the point.
（一旦描いたものについて）考え直す必要はありません。それがポイントではありません。

💡クレイジー8ではチームで時間制限を設けてアイデアを出しあうことを目的としています。最初にチームメンバーにいきなり1つのアイデアを熟考するのではなく、まずは複数アイデアを出すことを心がけることが大切な旨を伝えてください。

The point is for you to just keep your hands moving and keep the ideas flowing and eventually at some point you might find something that you did not think about before.
重要なのは、手を動かし続け、アイデアを流し続けることです。最終的には、ある時点で、以前は考えていなかった何かを見つける可能性があります。

As you can see we’ve just gone through a crazy 8s but within that 8 minutes what we’ve done is 8 different versions of the idea.

As you’re repeating over and over again up to eight times you’re actually thinking and elaborating your thinking your thoughts further than you actually come up with some ideas that you didn’t really think about before but it was triggered by one of the ideas previously so hopefully that makes sense.

アクテビティを進める際、参加者に意見の同意を求めることも必要です。そんなときに使えるフレーズです。

私は専門家ではありませんが、うまくいくと思います。

メンバーの意見をもとめたい時の表現

例えば話が前に進まないとき、ファシリテーター自らが解決策を提案するこことも大切です。同時にほかの人に意見を求めることも必要でしょう。

Can anyone suggest a possible compromise?
どなたか、妥協案はありますか？

議論を進めたあとは、そこで終わりにせずきちんとまとめて結論を出すことが必要です。そして、最後に決まったことを確認し、全員の意見のすり合わせをもう一度行いましょう。

まとめ

今回は、英語でのワークショップのファシリテーション、「クレージ８」のファシリテーションで使える英語、最初から最後まで、通しで使える表現をご紹介しました。

このアクティビティは、時間などの制約がある中でより多くのアイデアを創出できる方法です。難しい課題や、問題が発生した場合、ただ単にたくさんのアイデアを発散させたい時に使用知ってみてください。

企業のグローバル化が進み、仕事で多国籍の人が集まって会議をすることもあるでしょう。会議で発言できる英語能力も重要ですが、手際よく会議を進めるファシリテーションスキルも大切です。
