飲み干して割った食器や酒樽の数にて
時を数え、偉さを記し、その数で山を作って
何という孤独な永久だろう、古きローマの古人たちや
今も数えっていますか?失った中身を
偉き永遠の時の数々、その一瞬で流れる海の中で
O ye broken mountain of shards
by the number of dinnerware and wine urns
that they had drained till empty, and broke till they were in ruin
counting thus the hours, noting some greatness, and making heaps with their numbers.
What a lonely eternity they share with themselves, the old Romans and of the old Rome.
Are you still counting? The contents that were lost
in the number of great and eternal times, within the sea that flows in that instant
