Smile Seeking Society(自作自訳)

(Must be grammatically mistaken all around. Beg your pardon and kindness for raising suggestions)

…can't laugh. Can't smile anymore.
Even if they're laughing, I alone am not understanding what they are laughing about.
Even when I was about to laugh, hearing their voices saying "what's funny about like this?" and my laugh cease.

And still,
I am longing for the laugh. Or I want to smile. I want to confirm that I still have my ability to make a happy face.
And if possible, other people too. Want to believe that anyone possesses a right to smile and that's natural.

This is just a fragment of my dream about human society that sails for the coast of something soothing, something cheerful, and something funny.

It might be already queer enough
To think of obtaining laugh or smile with using some unnatural forces--like studies/methods/trainings.
As you think about it harder and more complicated, smiles would get away further.

And what could we say about those who are now in "actual" dangers or difficulties?
War, conflict, disaster, crime, disease, injury, or deep sorrow of losing something.
Who or what can make them smile/laugh?
Who or what can smile/laugh with knowing the facts existing behind?

And still,
Still I want to believe
that you and I are always allowed to smile/laugh.
that at the current moment, on this surface, more smile than I expect are floating.

Can't stop dreaming of a ridiculous, impossible miracle
that would make someone--even someTHING smile/laugh.

======
One day, a guy knocked at a door of "Smile Seeking Society", a small club of amateur that literally seeks for smiles on earth.
"I have someone whom I want to make laugh", said he.
Members of the society went with him to meet this person and found that--
"There is--SHE!"
She was a statue. Has stood at a corner of a park for countless years, old and worn, a sculptor and a model both unknown. What kind of emotion was her face bearing? No one knew.

"What a ridiculous!" "Waste of time!"
A few got angry, a few just snubbed it--and walked away.
But the guy was serious. He was not an insane.
(Or, WAS he an insane, maybe? But who can judge? Moreover, who on earth has a right to blame him being so?)

Anyway his desire was genuine.
There is a Greek myth that King Pygmalion's true love had eventually given to a Statue virgin, Galatea, a true human heart and life.
Aren't there many examples, that the historical and religious artworks which have been made by hands with great honesty and dedication, have got heartfelt veneration from people, have come to acquire some sort of power beyond explanations?

Then why can it be denied without even try,
The possibility that at somewhere on earth, at some time at a history, something that can make HER laugh exists?

The guy asked to those who have remained,
"Please lend me your hands. Cause I am the one who has been born desperately lacking a sense of humor."

Most people would simply ignore.
But this is a tale of "Smile Seeking Society" where the most eccentric people have gathered.
And, above all,
All of them have trusted/believed the power and ability of laugh/smile itself.

"Well, why not?" "Most challenging project ever, though" "So what will we begin with?" "Let's collect seeds!" "Seeds of--laugh/smile? O-ya, let's do!" "Agreed!"
They said to the guy, assuring,
"No matter what kind of people…well, what kind of THING she might be,"
"We will make her laugh someday!"

So they've started collecting the "Seeds of laugh/smile" with a small pot in each of their hand.

This was not a kind of problem that could easily be solved with one certain talented genius.
Instead, the human world already contains plenty of "seeds" which might develop and bloom in the future.

Laugh and smile have many kinds of its type---
Laugh loudly and madly. Guffaw. Grin. Giggle. Chuckle. Not always company of everyone's happiness.
Sometime, that's what you can't contain. Sometime, that's infectious. Sometime, that has no particular reason.

For many, babies' laugh are the most simple. Few are different between times or regions.
Adults' are much constrained.
Culture. Language. Age. Sex. Backgrounds. Situations.
There are many cases that laugh/smile require some knowledge, and people who don't have those will never make sense of them.

Oh but anyway,
Put aside all these complicated things for now.
Take it simple and collect samples. The more the better it would be.
Cause this is unprecedented to make this particular face laugh.

The guy and members explore.
Seek for seeds of what would have contained elements of making people laugh/smile.
They go all around the world--sometimes to a past long forgotten, too.

Then, they take it back to the park where "SHE" waits.
Under her gazing, they show and perform each other something funny. Taking each seed out of their pots.

Even if she didn't laugh, they would not give up.
With that seed, SOMEONE might have laughed, instead.
Another person would laugh with another seed. And the other who didn't laughed at those, still possibly laugh at any next seed they have found.

Thus their activities continue.
Ridiculously and endlessly.
"Smile Seeking Society"--always welcoming new members.
