🎧 Sting 『Bring On The Night』

The Police解散後のソロファーストアルバム『The Dream Of The Blue Turtles』の後にリリースされた2枚組ライブアルバムです。ファーストアルバムのヒット曲もThe Policeのメジャーな曲もなく渋い選曲で、The Policeの曲もロックというよりフュージョンに近いアレンジがされています。そんでもってバックバンドの演奏がまたイイ。私はStingのアルバムでこれがダントツで一番好きです。

出会い

同じ学生寮の大学の先輩がStingのファンでカセットを貸してくれた。StingはMTVで見る程度だったがこのアルバムを聴いて一気にファンになった。今でも中古レコード店に行くとこのアルバムが売ってないか確認している。このアルバムの影響で社会人になってStingの来日公演を3回も見に行った。1999年の「Brand New Day」以降Stingは聴いていないが、このアルバム、『The Dream Of The Blue Turtles』、『Ten Summoner’s Tales』は今でも定期的に聴いている。

ドキュメンタリー映画

このライブやリハーサルの様子を撮影したStingのドキュメンタリー映画です。オープニングから「Bring On The Night〜When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What’s Still Around」のリハーサルシーンがあります。めちゃかっこいい。

いわゆるワーキャーの歓声が静かめの音創りになっているので、すばらしい歌声と演奏がスタジオライブを一人で聴いているような感覚で楽しめます。Stingファンはもちろん、The Policeファン、どちらでもない方も絶対聴いた方がいいです。
