Baby bath after just childbirth
At the hospital in the Boston area, it is said that the baby does not need a bath after giving birth until the baby's umbilical cord is removed. This is to protect the skin with vernix and to prevent hypothermia in the baby by soaking in a bathtub. Meanwhile they only wipe the baby body with body sponge.
I think that Boston has a dry climate area so that Westerners have fewer sweat glands than Asians, so they sweat less, so they are taught this way.
Anyway the Japanese are ethnic group with many sweat glands. In Japan, babies start bathing about 1 to 3 days after giving birth. I have recommended that it's better to take the baby bath when mom's physical strength is recovered and the baby is active crying and sweating.
