Day4-In Search of the Lost Smile
It was about ten years ago, when my father passed away, that my mother suddenly lost her vitality. I thought she would regain her spirits in a few months or a year. However, even after ten years have passed, she hasn't shown the liveliness she once had.
When I say "Mother has no energy," I mean her desire to do anything has diminished. Not only has she lost the urge to "go somewhere" or "have fun," but even the fundamental desire to "eat" has waned. Suggesting trips to nature-rich places, shopping outings, or inviting her to delicious-looking restaurants hasn't piqued her interest.
Suddenly, I remembered that my mother used to be sociable and loved talking with people. Realizing that people live through relationships with others, I recalled when she once asked me, "Can't I help with your work?" At that time, I told her, "Eating meals is your job," but now I've decided to genuinely have her assist me with my work.
Not simple tasks like folding a few flyers, but meaningful work that utilizes her special skills. She is good at playing simple piano pieces, singing, talking, and reading books. I'm now considering what kind of work I can ask her to do. To bring back her smile and help her live vibrant days once again.
