オンライン英会話Review:Thanksgiving Dayについて

今週のオンライン英会話はThanksgivingについてのスライドを読みながら話を進めました😊

Disney +で私がドはまりしている "Taste the Nation" のシーズン2で先日Thanksgivingについての話を観たり、ちょうど今週Thanksgivingだしピッタリじゃん♪ということでこのテーマを選びました😉

番組についてはこちらのnoteに簡単に紹介を書きました🔽

30分という短い時間で言いたいことはまとまりきらなかったところはありますが、でも「私が知っているのはね、」とか「先日観た番組ではね、」とか自分から話を広げることがいつもより出来たかなと思います。

この日のチューターがイギリス人の方だったこともあり、意見交換をしながら互いに知っている情報を出し合い話を進めたり、イギリスではThanksgivingはないけど、クリスマスと近いのかも？と言ってクリスマスの紹介もしてくれたり🎄

今回も学びが多い30分でした。

My tutor and I discussed Thanksgiving during an online lesson this week. The article we read described the holiday as being related to the harvest season, which is true, but I felt there was more to it. I was able to explain a little about another perspective—the story of the Pilgrims and Native Americans sharing a meal, which is believed to be the first Thanksgiving in history.

On the program "Taste the Nation," I learned that the Wampanoag people, who were present long before the Pilgrims arrived, questioned whether the meal was truly "peaceful." The current interpretation seems to reflect the settlers' perspective. Thanksgiving seems to be the symbol of warmth and happiness but is also considered a "day of mourning," which I hadn’t been familiar with before watching the program.

There was more I wanted to share during the lesson, but that will have to wait until next time.

アメリカにいたときの私にとってのThanksgivingは美味しいごちそうがたくさんで食べ過ぎちゃって困る日なんていう程度😅
歴史的背景について全く考えずに楽しんでいただけで、今思うともっといろんな人に話を聞いてみたり、自分で調べたりすれば良かったのに～！と思わずにはいられない！！！

今からでも少しずつ知る機会を作っていきたいです。
