And now / I get greetings cards at Christmas / which say, ʻHappy Holidaysʼ, not ʻHappy Christmasʼ. // I imagine / the senders chose them / because they were worried I might be offended / if I received a card / celebrating a Christian festival. / Thatʼs a real shame. / I know people / who belong to all sorts of religions / ― Christians, Hindus, Jews, Muslims ― / and who send each other greetings cards / when the time comes to celebrate their different festivals. / They delight in the diversity. / I know people with no religious background at all / who are just as delighted / to send or receive a card /  around the time of a festival. / Thatʼs how it should be, / to my mind. // I hope the day never comes / when all cards say only ʻHappy Holidaysʼ. //

"Happy Christmas"ではなく、"Happy Holidays"と書いてある

It's a shame　（非難の意味で）残念です。≒　It's a pity

I hope the day never comes　私はその日が決して来ないことを願っている
when all cards say only ʻHappy Holidaysʼ.　あらゆるカードが"Happy Holidays"としか書いてない

Whether that happens or not / wonʼt be up to me. / Itʼs up to the next generation / to decide whether political correctness has gone too far. // That means you.
