会社からハンパーが届きました。ハンパーとは、イギリスに由来し、もともとは籐（とう）など植物性の繊維で編んだカゴのことだったのですが、時間の経過とともに「ピクニック食器や食料品を詰めたカゴのこと」を指すようになったそうです。ヨーロッパ文化の名残がところどころ見えるシドニーでも贈り物の選択肢の一つとなっています。
さて、一人暮らしでこの大量のフルーツをどうしようか。友達何人かに声をかけて、週末に食べにきてもらうことにしました。

プロシュートを買ってきてメロン＆プロシュートと、土鍋を利用して、チョコレートフォンデュ。特にチョコレートフォンデュは、いろいろなフルーツを使えるし、見栄えもするし、「これ合うねぇ。」などとワイワイ言いながら食べられるので、簡単で楽しい。嬉しい発見でした。
もう一つの嬉しい発見は、こんな時に食べにきてくれる友達がいること。セルフアイソレーション中の冬は、とにかく気分が沈みがち。そんな時にたわいもない話をすることで、こんなに元気になるんだなぁと思いました。心にも体にもビタミンが行き届いた週末でした。

I got hampers from the office. It is said that Hampers came from England and used to mean a basket made of plant-based fiber such as wistaria. As the time passed by, the word now means a basket to put dishes or foods for picnics. In Sydney where European culture still remains more or less, it is one of the gift options.
Living alone, I wondered what I should do with the huge amount of fruits, then decided to invite friends over to help me finishing it over the weekend.
I got prosciutto for Melon & Prosciutto, and we had chocolate fondu using an
Earthenware pot. Especially, chocolate fondu was good as we can use various fruits and it looks fancy. We can talk about what goes well and what does not. Easy and simple. Such a pleasant surprise.
I am pretty pleased that I have friends who come over. Self-isolation during winter is nothing but depressing. Even during this period, talking about anything is pretty lifting. It was a such good weekend with vitamins filling the body and the soul.
